If you are racing, or riding really hard you may need to check the clutch each season. You can take the friction plates out and measure the thickness, and check this against KTMs recommended limits. If the raised squares on the friction plates are worn off they surely need replacing. Normal trail riding with some moderately hard riding should see the clutch last for many years without needing new plates. The plates might still be OK in 2031! Change the oil as often as recommended in the manual, or as often as you can afford! (General advice only).

you may want to relube your water pump. this usually happens if the water pump cannot put out what it gets from the inlet valve. what will happen is that coolant will get stuck on the negative reservoir, then will get out of the over flow tube. you may think that you have too much coolant, but yet you only are running half.

avoid further damage and overheating have it replaced.

2011 KTM 250 SXF will not idle

Hi, Anonymous if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

my mates just had exactly the same problem and we found it to be the throttle sensor, we changed the stator, coil, kill switch and lots of other parts before we found the problem. it cost him around 90 pound to have it fixed. if in doubt tho and you want to make sure just take it to any ktm dealer and have them run a diagnostic

2008 ktm sxf still pulls along even with the clutch pulled in

1.If the bike has been sitting for some time the clutch plates may be dry- remove plates and soak in oil overnight.
2. Check steel clutch disks are not warped
3. Clutch has nine friction discs, 8 larger ones and one smaller(the inner or first one you install). Inside this diameter of the ninth friction disc is whats called a judder spring, one flat and one concave, check that the concave faces inwards check that the flat one is installed first.
4. Bleed the clutch as per the manual, in reverse.
5. Check clutch throw with clutch cover off and clutch plates assembled. Watch the pressure plate for movement, should move around 3-5mm.
6. Try a 10W oil instead of 15W(Motul)
7.All else fails, **** the judder spring off! I did this on mine after days and days of rootin about trying to stop the bike walking forward in gear with the clutch in!! and it was much better! Judder spring is there I believe to make the clutch a bit smoother, didnt make any difference to the smoothness of my clutch but it stopped the bike walking forward in gear!
Hope this helps mate!
