That knocking noise could be that the teeth on your main drive are worn out and chain is jumping them on acceleration.Pull th primary cover and check the drive gear for chain on motor sprocket.Replace it if worn to that point.

Hi,it dose sound like the front sproket has got worn teeth,but by tacking the wheel back to take up the slack when the sproket is worn wont work,if eneything it could make it worse as the chain will now get stuck on the teeth even more,becouse as the teeth wear on the sproket thay also start to bend the teeth,well I hope this was some help.
just a little tip before I go,when you think that the chain has done harf of its life take bougth of the srokets off front and back and turn them around,this will give you longer life of the chain and sprokets.
