1989 vulcan s/e

Runs perfect starts and runs excelent. you may go 60 to 80 or maybe afew more miles. it will completely quit running as if you shut of the key. take out the plugs ,no spark. wait an hour or so and it will start up as if there was never a problem. the only time it will do this is on very hot days.been to acouple of dealers , they think it may be the brain . this item is not cheap so i was wondering if anyone had any experience with a problem like this.

It sounds like the coils are getting hot and quit firing, or either the brain or ( ignition control module)

Riding for about 120 miles with a full tank, the engine will sputter then stop working, going 65 mph down the road, then as we were traveling. would pull in the cluth in and hit the starter and it would...

hi.
you are almost certainly low on fuel in the main tank.
the tank only holds a few gallons from completely empty. reserve fuel is a gallon or so, which means that the main tank hold somewhere just under 4 gallons if i remember correctly. my sister had a 1989 virago about 14 years ago, and hers would do about 110miles before she had to fill up again if she was driving around town. look for the fuel tap at the bottom of the tank, and if this happens again, turn the tap on to the reserve setting. it will give you about 30 miles range before running out completely. this is just one of those bikes where you have to fill up quite often due to a small tank. hope this helps

DRAIN CARBS FROM PETCOCK AT BOTTOM OF EACH CARB MAKE SURE FUEL DRAINS COMPLETELY THEN TURN FUEL BACK ON, IF THIS IS AN INJECTED MODEL DRAIN TANK AND FLUSH THEN RUN IT HARD FOR 20 MILES OR SO, MAKE SURE YOUR OIL LEVEL IS OK

1992 Kawasaki 750 Vulcan Shuts Off

It sounds like you are running out of battery, and that is why the bike is quitting.

Have you checked the charging?
Check the battery voltage with a meter after you have charged it. should be 13.5 volts or so. Start the bike, you may have lost a little but the voltage should increase as you watch the volt meter, rev the bike, Any increase?
If there is no increase or if it is decreasing in voltage then I would suspect you charging system.

Hope this is of some help.

Bike won't stay running

Have the carburators cleaned. this is the first step to ensure there isnt any dirt in the carb.
2nd. Jets should be standar.
3rd. The Fuel/Air screw or knob should be properly set. This is usually 2.5 turns outward from full close. Check for the manual for the proper opening.
4th. Idle knob maybe set too low.
