Question about Motorcycles

Open Question

Sometimes my Bandit 600 (96) wont go into neutral. It has been a bit "clunky" in and out of neutral since I bought it about 4 months ago. Can anyone tell me what I need to adjust or replace please?

Going up and down the gears is no problem. Just sometimes cannot find neutral so I have had to leave it in gear.

Sorry it is a 97. The bike is trying to travel while the clutch lever is held all the way in. Also the bike snatches into first gear then I cant get neutral with the engine running. When the engine is not running I can get neutral. It goes up and down gears fine. Just not neutral. A friend has tried adjusting the clutch cable, but the problem still is the same. Does anyone have any ideas please? Many thanks.

SOURCE: hi there. i have a 1991 honda cr250, struggling to find gears

You have a couple of bent shift forks. Not a repair for the novice. The problem will not get better only worse. Obviously the dealer can handle it but $$$$ will dance in your head. Ask around for a bike repair guy in your area. Often a dealer mechanic also repairs bikes at his home. This will mean about 1/2 the dealer cost.

SOURCE: unable to change down gear. gear lever stays down

Well, first of all ofcourse find out how many gears you have, if you take it to a shop and they tell you you have "One down, four up"
It means starting from Neutral, you click down once for first gear, and from there you can click up to fifth.
Try finding an open area, gear up to 3rd or 4th then gear down a couple times.
Remember, you must be in gear 2 or higher to gear down.

SOURCE: False neutral

There is pretty much a false neutral between every gear on an Enfield. You need to ease the gear up or down and do it by feel more than a hard up or down movement

SOURCE: Motorcycle: Difficulty changing up to 2nd gear and neutral

one thing, check your gear selector, sometimes if that sharp edge is rounded out, worn out from usage, your gears may either slip, or wont wove at all.

SOURCE: kawasaki en 500 c1Im having problems changing up and down gears

The bike has some bent shift forks. Bent shift forks do not move the slider gears properly when changing gears. Expensive to fix.

I have bandit 1200 wont start in neutral with side stand down also no neutral light on dash. bike year 1999 please help

This could be the clutch switch:
1. Check the wires to make sure they are plugged firmly into the switch.
2. Use a voltmeter to check that resistance through the switch goes to zero when the clutch handle is pulled in.

If you have replaced the clutch switch with a fuse....check that the fuse is good and the blades are not corroded.

Hi, is it possible you have removed the gear lever at any time? And replaced it with the rod below the gear shaft instead of above the shaft as it should be , this would make 1st gear rite up instead off 1down, if this is not the case, and you can select all the gears from 1st to top gear, then it may be that the neutrol locating pin in the end of the selector has broken or even the end plate.bolt on the selector has just come lose, other more seriouse problems include worn selector forks, or broken circlips etc

Try replacing the neutral safety switch. it's located underneatht the battery. I paid almost $70 dollars from the dealer.

There is a switch called the neutral lockout switch that has probably failed and needs to be replaced. This switch keeps you from being able to start the car in park. Try putting the transmission in neutral and see if it will start.

I have pretty much the same problem as (bikerbike)

Sounds like a broken or, even more likely, a shorted wire. Try moving individual wires till you notice a change.
