Hi, Ecartailler for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. SOURCE: buying tip

with the rev's just above idle all was well. When I took the rev's up to 3000-4000 for a faster start the clutch slipped and chattered. The owner said All Ducatis do that. I'm sure a 999 doesn't, but is this normal for a 620? (I weigh 165 lbs.) 2. The owner said a light had gone out in the instrument cluster (I believe either the tack or speedo) and the entire gauge was replaced under warranty. He said that's the only way to replace a burned out light in these gauges. Is he correct? 3. The throttle from idle seemed to have a lot of resistance before it would move at all, then it would move smoothly. Cable just needs lubing? Normal? 4. Anything specific to 620's that I should check, that pretty regulary goes out and would be a substantial cost to fix? The bike rode sweet. The high, wide handlebars and 2 cylinder, air-cooled motor reminded me of a Buell. The front brakes are awesome. My wife is looking to replace her 2000 Ninja 250 with this bike. Any help y'all can give is very appereciated!,1. Slipping & chattering clutch @ 3-4k does not sound normal. What it could be, I dunno. 2. I haven't run into that either, but I believe it may be the case, unless you're an enterprising wrench. I wouldn't think it to be a big deal, but I'll bet the only way you're going to find out what bulb it is is by taking it apart. 5 gets you 10 that any Ducati 'fiche only shows it as a whole unit - in which case they're not going to know what bulb to get, and they're not going to want to tear it apart. (As for the P.O., if it's under warranty, that's how I'd fix it, too). Same goes for the handlebar controls - I had a horn button spring break or dislodge - and according to Ducati, I could only order the whole unit - for +$400. So, score one for ebay 3. Cables could always stand to be lubed, IMO. But it could be something sticky in the grip, or a snatch somewhere in the cable guide - starting with the grip itself. 4. Can't think of anything, besides the usual stuff. My suggestion? Since this sounds like a private sale, if you really want this bike, have him take down to the dealer and let them give you an opinion of it. Make sure to mention those issues. If it's the same dealer, ask them (privately) what they know of its history. Ask for service receipts/history from the owner.,,,

SOURCE: can a monster 800 motor

If you have a dealer near by, go and measure the 2 bikes frame size. I think that would be the only difference. The 800 might have a bigger frame in pipe diameter size, The bolt pattern should be the same, but I don't know for sure. I have a 99 750 and 02 S4 and the difference in frame size is unbelievable. I think the 620 was built along the lines of the 400 frame, and the 750/ 800 was in a class all by itself. Then the 900's were another size up. Ask a mechanic at the dealer. They should know this stuff. Or call one up and bug them. I do it all the time. Hope this helps.

Hi, Anonymous the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or damaged battery, 9 volts or lower.

3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Fuel tank empty.
13. Gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
14. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.

I have a 1999 ducati monster and for some reason I keep blowing fuses everytime I try to start it.

It must have a shorted wire somewhere, check which fuses it is blowing and start disconnecting, remove the tank and check all the wire harness for damage, also near the steering head where the wires move. occasionally the handle bar switch blocks can short inside.

My 2004 Monster 620 cockpit doesn't light up when I turn the key.

Sounds like you're using a black key that has a damaged chip, so the ICU will not recognized it and has immobilized the bike. Use the red key, or the spare black key if you have it. If you don't have a spare, scrounge the internet for various work arounds, otherwise it's a very costly repair.

Pull real hard. Or you can use a small thin plastic prybar, with a rag between it and the tank and slowly work the assy out. Its in there real good.
