This problem may be a drain or a bad battery or alternator.

The first thing to do before going on trying to find the system that is draining the battery would be to have the battery tested and charging system tested.

A weak battery will seem ok after the car is jumped or will barely start the car and the alternator will charge it even though the alternator is overworking due to weak battery and during the day or when car does not sit long it will seem ok. then when car sits overnight or a few days battery will weaken on its own, making it look like a drain,

so first step is battery test and alternator/charging system test.

Testimonial: "It was a bad a bad alternator! Thanks!"

SOURCE: what is the easiest way

2002 diamante heater core sits in center of the dashboard just over the on board computer for the car. To access it you need to take out the console between the seats and the entire dashboard to get to it. The only thing wrong with the heater core is the leaking gaskets (about $10 in parts). Mitsubishi knows about the problem and when the dash is taken apart you will see a plastic sheet over the onboard computer to somewhat protect it from the leaking heater core gaskets. So the expense in the repair is in the labor to get it all apart and back together again. The dealers seem to replace entire heater core when they fix this problem. I did just the gaskets and that solved the problem. I have read others who did it themselves only replaced the gaskets and that solved it for them as well. Maybe the dealers think you will feel better replacing a larger part for so much labor.

SOURCE: 2002 Mitsubishi diamante- Where is

I assume you are going after the water pump. there are three tensioners you have to adjust to get there. The rest is bonus material in case you are really ambitious. All Mitsubishi cars pretty much hide the water pump under the timing belt. You should buy all new belts for the car and if you have 150,000+ miles consider replacing the water pump at the same time.
You will have to take off the power steering belt .
First , take off the negative battery cable so you do not blow an expensive fuse on the positive battery cable clamp. Facing the back of the car , reach UNDER the alternator and loosen the bolt on the bottom right side, now loosen the bolt on the adjuster block on top, you can now turn the adjuster bolt and move the alternator to change the belt.
To take off the steering pump belt on the front of the motor, you need to loosen the nut on the back side of the pulley it holds the adjuster pulley in place . With the adjuster pulley loose , you can use the adjuster bolt to move the pulley to adjust/take off the steering pump belt.
Now take off the upper belt cover, support the motor, take off the motor mount, jack up the right front corner of the car, take off the front right tire, take off the engine plastic under cover.
Line up the TDC timing mark on the cover to the mark on the pulley, take off the lower pulleys (use an air gun and impact socket),
take off the lower engine cover, observe the timing marks/arrows and highlight with paint (crank marks and cam marks should all line up if not , rotate the crankshaft one full turn.), loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley ,take off the timing belt, counter balancer belt if there is one. Now you can unbolt the water pump, scrape the gasket, and replace it.
The good news is, if you have tools,a compressor, an air gun(for lower pulley bolt), patience , and four to eight hours to kill, you can actually save money and do it your self.

Interesting as I just started having a similar problem. AAA said thre is a slow drain on the battery (which is only 6 months old). We can hear a very high pitch sound under the hood which may be part of it, but have no idea yet as to what it is.

1998 mitsubishi diamante o2 sensor, o2 heater, EGR sys NOT READY

Check the O2 sensor heaters with an ohmmeter. Also test the EGR solenoid valve by applying 12 vdc directly to the solenoid pins.

Disconnect the HO2S.
  1. Measure the resistance between PWR and GND terminals of the sensor. Resistance should be approximately 6 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not within specification, the sensor's heater element is faulty.
  2. With the HO2S connected and engine running, measure the voltage with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) between terminals HO2S and SIG RTN(GND) of the oxygen sensor connector. Voltage should fluctuate between 0.01-1.0 volts. If voltage fluctuation is slow or voltage is not within specification, the sensor may be faulty.
