SOURCE: how to change oil for2007 heritage softail classic

The oil drain us usually a hose with a plug in it that is held by a clip on the frame. It us usually on the right hand side of the bike just behind and underneath the transmission side cover. Loosen the clamp and pull the plug out. The oil will run out of the tank. Replace plug and add new oil to the tank.

form the sound of it you need a new clutch pak in the starter. Its pretty simply fix. don't let them sell u a new starter just a clutch pak for the starter. I take it by spinning u are not talking about the motor turning over. If its turning over then its not the starter.

The fork oil is a very specific job needing a manual and a special tool, I don't want to insult anyones mechanical knowledge but if you have never done it before, best to take somewhere else. Engine oil on the other hand is easy, the drain tube to any softail is on the right side by where the frame meets the swing arm, has somekind of plug in it. Start and run bike for a little while, long enough to get it warm but not hot. Remove fill plug and then remove plug in drain line. Using a peice of cardboard or something put in between filter and frame , directing the oil to your drain pan instead of where ever it goes. Put 1 qt oil back in (after everything is reinstalled) start the bike and make sure the oil light goes out, when it does shut bike off and fill to the point that when it is standing upright you get a little oil on the tip of your finger, over filling may result in loss of oil cap from pressure (been there)

Do I need to take primary cover off to pull sarter

Hi Gary, yes you do, before you get started on this adventure, disconnect the battery negative cable. Drain and remove primary cover, bend back tab on starter jackshaft bolt and remove by holding pinion gear. Remove starter chrome end cap, all cables and wires, front and rear starter mounting bolts. Carefully begin extraction process, by twisting and turning starter and holding your tounge at a 37 degree angle. Seriously it can be done but somes times in rare cases you might have to remove or loosen some oil tank mounts in order to pry up the tank a little to facilitate removal. Good luck

Changing positve battery cable on a 1993 heritage softail

I am sorry to see you waiting for so long without an answer. I do not have knowledge of bikes back in 1993 but I would think it would be fairly simple to trace it out and do it BUT always disconnect the negative battery cable before doing anything with a positive one. I would imagine that the positove one just goes diretly from the battery to the starter solenoid.

Replacing ignition switch on a softail

Hi Anonymous, disconnect battery negative cable from battery. If you have an early FLSTF remove set screw in odometer knob, remove knob, remove console housing. Four screws secure ignition switch to speedometer mounting plate. With masking tape mark position of a clock on the wires you remove from switch. Remove switch and replace with new one. Late models are pretty much the same but without odometer knob. Good luck

I have a 2000 Heritage Softail Classic. I rode it 2 Weeks ago without any Trouble. This Weekend it had no Power to anything, Battery shows charged but nothing works.

Hi Carmen, make sure your battery cables are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends. Then check your main circuit or maxi fuse for loose connections or negative function. Finally test your ignition switch for continuity. Good luck

2000 heritage softail....new battery losing charge as i ride....then wont turn over after shutting down...even 1-2 mile of riding ???

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

Tiny spark at negative terminal as ground wire when attached

If all your instruments works fine then just check if any loose connection can be found. Just 2b safe.
The other thing is NEVER connect your battery while engine is running.

I want to remove the existing battery on a 2007 harley davidson softail deluxe classic and install a new one

The battery is under the seat
Remove the seat remove anything thats in the way, undo the terminals and pull it out. Sometimes a large set of water pump pliers makes pulling the battery out easier.
