That's why sensible people put exhaust pipe shields over their pipes. Buy some soon or burn yourself!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

For some reason, the problem is incomplete...

  • "2002 kawasaki ninja ex 250,engine dies after..."
If the problem is, idle and revs good while in neutral but shuts down when gear is engaged, then it would most likely be the sidestand switch. Try to check, clean, bypass or replace.

Otherwise, postback to clarify and/or describe fully.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Oil leak on kawasaki 250 stockman cant seam to find it

Hi, Bob due to the magnitude of yesterday's solar flare my night and x-ray vision optical devices have become inoperable so you will have to be my eyes, to find the source of your oil leak, start at the point where you see oil and trace its path going up and forward, if there is too much oil present then buy a spray can of engine degreaser apply it to the affected area then rinse off with a pressure wand or garden hose, use compressed air to blow off excess water or just let it drip dry, take your bike for a 5 mile ride and check for the leaks. On my 2003 ninja 250 the only way it starts most of the time is full choke, after the bike is warm I lower the choke and it does....the I have to let it set for a few minutes to restart it,

Hi, Pirate and the usual suspects are:

1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.

2. Fuel filter clogged.

3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.

4. Float needle and seat sticking.

5. Float level too low.

6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.

7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.

8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.

9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.

10. Slow fuel jet clogged.

2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250 I bought it as a project So the guy who had it drop it at a construction zone and broke all the plastices He had the bike sitting in the backYard for 5 years it only has 2,423 miles...

If you over filled the motor that much and you got it into all the components you say, then it's probably going to smoke for a while longer. You probably have motor oil in the exhaust. That's probably what you're seeing. If it doesn't stop after running it a couple of times maybe a couple of test rides then I would do a compression check just to make sure. Then a leak down test to make sure the rings are ok. I would run it for a while first. That amount of oil will take a bit to burn off.

2002 ninja 250 idels good runs bad with no power band and sounds like its running on two cylinders but both exhaust pipes get hot,it just doesnt sound like a ninja should,i put new plugs with no change

The power band on a 2002 Ninja 250 does not kick in till you hit about 5000 RPM. The newer 2008 and up 250's kick in about 3000 RPM. There is a website devoted to the Ninja 250 that might give your more background into the motorcycle: You may want to replace your spark plug caps they may be robbing of the spark you need at take off. They simply unscrew off of the end of the wires. They should read 5000 OHM's no higher , no lower. If you purchase new NGK brand plug caps they will only cost about $5 each.
