Question about 2001 Yamaha YZF-R1

Wire harness on a 2001 r1 shorted out

I bought a 2001 r1 used long story short. The wireing harness is in bad shape. I pulled the harness off and got it back together. Some of the switcnes such as nutral saftey are not on it and the manual is not very clear on leaving these out. The only problem now i have no fire to the coils. Hot wire is hot to the coils. Do you have a better diegram that can show me the main harness and how to bipass all the saftey switches that it takes to get fire. As simple as you can. I am just a few wires off so is the bike Thanks

Hi, Tom the vast majority of service, parts, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 and there is a handful of rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer available. Most of the manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. To download your manual please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

SOURCE: wire harness on a 2001 r1 shorted out

The Haynes manuals have very good color-coded wiring diagrams in them. They are worth the investment, anyway.

Hope,

2001 Yamaha r1 won't start and Speedo acting up

Hi, Tom and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty MAP, CKP, O2, TPS, sensors.
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box.
17. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
18. Check for engine trouble codes.

2002 Yamaha R1 headlights not working and turn signals. Bike starts no problem. Dash displays turns signals icon lit and high beam icon on but lights. I checked all fuses on the left had side no fuses...

my friend you have a short in your wiring harness. The best way to do a mini check is take your fairings off and start jiggling wires. Usually, if there is a short the lights and/or blinkers will blink.....otherwise your bulbs could be blown. If the harness is shorted go to your dealer or someone capable of fixing the problem( you probably can do it) hope this helps you...good luck!!

Fault code No. 22 Symptom >> Air temperature sensor: open or short circuit detected.
Item/components and probable cause
1 Connections Air temperature sensor coupler Main wire harness ECU coupler Check the coupler for any pins that may have pulled out. Check the locking condition of the coupler. If there is a malfunction, repair it and connect the coupler securely. 2 Open or short circuit in wire harness. Repair or replace if there is an open or short circuit. Between air temperature sensor coupler and ECU coupler.(Brown/White)(Black/Blue) 3 Defective air temperature sensor. > Replace if defective.
Code 22 > Reinstated automatically if a normal signal is received.

Fault code No.: 60 Symptom: Throttle servo motor: open or short circuit detected. Defective throttle servo motor. Malfunction in ECU (servo motor driving system). Probable cause of malfunction: •Open or short circuit in wire harness. •Defective throttle servo motor (potentiometer circuit). •Stuck throttle servo motor (mechanism). •Stuck throttle servo motor (motor). •Malfunction in ECU. Diagnostic code No.: 01 FIRST thing to do is CHECK the ETV Fuse - 7.5A I think - This might NOT be in the main fuse box.
Hope this helps

R1 2004 keeps stoping and says 11 on dash

Error Code 11 is "No normal signals are received from the cylinder identification sensor."

Probable causes:

Open/short circuit in wiring subharness
Open/short circuit in wiring harness
Defective cylinder identification sensor
Malfunction in ECU
Improperly installed sensor

Probably not a blown fuse since it is intermittent - Quite possibly a broken/damaged wire - check in the vicinity of the rad fan - I understand they pass very close and can be caught by the blades

Hope this helps.
