It is best straight up and down. Try it both ways and see how much difference it makes in the reading. So long a the lean isn't too much there should be only a minor difference.

Get a filter wrench at walmart (plastic) or Auto zone type place, unscrew drain plug and after all is drained then take off filter. It works bette if you warm up the bike first so the oil is warm and flows better. The oil fill and dip stick is behind the rear chrome cover on the right side. Two allen screws to remove the cover. Check for no leaks by running her after you fill up with oil.
