Farmall Super A, rebuilt carburator, cleaned tank and lines but will not run smoothly unless choke is pulled out at least 3/4. Any suggestions?

You have an obstruction in the main jet circuit of your carburetor. That is why you need to choke it - give it gas.

How do you adjust idle. Mine will not idle unless choke is on.

Your main jet is carb is clogged and needs to be cleaned out so idle circuit will work without the choke.

Engine won't run unless choke is partially closed.

when the choke is partially closed there is extra vacuum created in the venturi of the carby that assists to help pull the fuel through the main jet and the idle circuit
it indicates that the main jet circuit still has a blockage or there is insufficient fuel getting to the carby ( vent problem)
it could be from a gasket or diaphragm blocking a vacuum port or the fibre block under the carby incorrectly fitted

Just had carb rebuilt. Fired it up and will not run unless choke is partially on and it back fires

then whoever rebuilt it can not have cleaned the pilot jet out properly or has fitted too small a jet in it.

Choke has to be out to stay running, yet it speeds up on its own or dies

Sounds like the carb's need cleaned. If the jets are plugged partly off it can't get enough fuel unless the choke is on. Normally if the choke is on the engine will run a little faster, at least until it is warmed up.

I have cleaned the gas tank, fuel lines and rebuilt the carb. It now runs but just at idle almost in the choke position. I have played with the throttle and it wants to die when I move it to normal ru

if it runs only in choke it sounds like its lean (choke reduces airflow and gets back to a mixture it will run on.....just). It could just be a small bit of crud in the carby jet. You cleaned the fuel system.....did you install or replace a fuel filter? sometimes cleaning the tank and lines stirs up stuff that needs to be filtered.....even though you may had cleaned and rinsed out a lot.

2001 Shadow Sabre, Won't idle with choke off unless giving it some throttle.

Hi, Rickgilbreat and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

The bike will not run good unless the choke is on. cleaned the carbs and everything look good.

It's running lean.Soak your jets in Sea Foam for a couple hours and check your intake boots for cracks/leaks.
