Go on line with the Honda Website and request a Honda 230 repair manual or go to a motorcycle shop and get it, or go on line and find a company that sells the repair manual.

The clutch on a Honda motorcycle, when actuated, separates the driveline from the engine, effectively cutting power output to the rear wheel. This is an important feature, as it allows you to stop without turning off the engine, and also to switch gears while riding without damaging the gearbox of the motorcycle. However, if your clutch is not set up and adjusted properly, it may do damage to both the engine and the transmission, and make for a long afternoon of walking or towing your bike. Keep your motorcycle running properly by keeping the clutch in good adjustment.

Take the motorcycle for a 10- or 20-minute test ride. Use this ride to determine if the clutch is actuating against the transmission too much or too little. For example, if you release the clutch lever and the motorcycle is low on power, the clutch is not actuating enough. On the other hand, if you pull in the clutch lever and it is difficult to shift, or the motorcycle continues to propel itself forward, it is actuating too much, and should be adjusted. Set the motorcycle on its kickstand or center stand so it will not tip or fall while being worked on. Loosen the clutch cable if the clutch needs to actuate more strongly and provide more power to the wheel. Loosen the clutch cable adjuster bolts near the crankcase using a 13 or 15 millimeter wrench until there is a small amount of play in the cable. You should be able to move the clutch lever a short distance with no change in the clutch's behavior. Tighten the clutch cable if you need the clutch to actuate less strongly. Tighten the cable at the crank case adjuster using a 13 or 15 millimeter wrench until there is only a small amount of play left in the cable. Pulling the lever from now on will make a much larger difference in clutch behavior and power transfer. Tighten the clutch cable adjusters near the crank case so that they will not loosen during normal clutch use. Take the motorcycle for a test ride. While riding, use your left hand to adjust the barrel adjuster where the cable housing meets the clutch lever, to fine-tune the adjustments made previously. Return to your work area and use a pair of pliers or robo-grips to tighten the barrel adjuster stop so that it will not loosen as you ride with your newly adjusted clutch cable. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: no pressure in the clutch lever

Hi Koorong,
It seems you may have refitted it incorrectly the system, especially the springs !, the round ones or the center inside clutch lifter pin which whn operated does not push to lift the pressure ring.
I am not tht experinced withthe duccati but i guess the clutch systems works on the same principles.

The simple way to do it is borrow an electric impact gun. (1/2" drive) If you jam something in there you can damage things.

That is more than enough movement. Most probably don't move half that much. All they have to do is release the spring pressure from between the plates.

SOURCE: The BAFFLE fell off of Honda CRF 230 - replaceable? New exhaust?

I would say no. Is it just a slip on? Or was it clamped,? welded? How did it fall off? Even if the guts came flying out the end, they can be put back in. My exhaust system is just pressed together, I can pull it apart and rewrap the fiberglass and won't hurt a thing. Some exhausts are held together by a spring. Check it out. Hope this helps.

How to free up clutch on honda shadow

if it stuck from being stood that's due to corrosion on the clutch plates the steel plates rust and stick to the friction plates, two ways to do it
1st is to start the bike get someone to give you a good push then put in in 1st gear, hold the clutch in and open and close the throttle quite quickly ,hold on as it will jerk about a bit and possibly wheelie.that should do it if it doesn't
2nd,Take the clutch cover off and undo the clutch bolts that hold the pressure plate on and manually separate the plates ,clean them up with some fine wet and dry sandpaper and re assemble it..

Clutch problems

I know unless they changed the design the clutches need oil to operate properly to allow Slippage when clutch is in (handle is pulled in) Are you trying to shift by rocking the bike? It should shift with the clutch engaged (Engine not running) just by rocking the bike back and forth and operating the shifter. I do know without oil on the clutches with the engine running there will be to much force put on the gears to allow them to shift plus it is a very bad Idea to ever run an engine without oil in it. Be it a 4 Stroke or a 2 stroke.

How do i pull the clutch assembly on a 84 fxrs

Disconnect the battery. Drain the primary oil and remove the outer primary cover. Remove the four bolts that hold the clutch spring in. Remove the clutch spring and pressure plate. Then, you can remove the friction and steel plates. If you want to remove the entire clutch assembly, you'll have to remove the nut from the transmission mainshaft and remove the sprocket shaft nut. The mainshaft nut that holds the clutch assembly on has LEFT-HANDED THREADS. Once you get the nut off, you'll need a clutch puller to get the clutch assembly off the tapered transmission mainshaft. Get one of the pullers that screw onto the mainshaft and you rap it with a hammer. You do not have to disassemble the clutch assembly completely to remove it from the mainshaft. You can take it off as a unit by removing the snap ring in the center and removing the adjuster plate. Remove the sprocket shaft nut, the chain adjuster nut, and the mainshaft nut and remove the engine sprocket, primary chain and clutch assembly all together.

Good Luck

Clutch won't work!

The springs and center nut should be tight. Check the clutch for proper sequence of clutch parts. Also, be sure the clutch lever assembly and left side cover are fully in place before the clutch is assembled. First plate should be a friction plate, then metal pressure plate then friction, etc. Thrust washer & two others in the proper locations? Clutch lifter in backwards?
