Could be your float oryour needle is sticking did u clean the carbs?

SOURCE: oil leaks from breather box

Hi!
From your brief description It sounds like you are experiencing Crank Case pressure build up.
I presume your ZZR is of High mileage or possibly previous owners havn't serviced it regularly.
The problem being the compression Piston Rings wear and allow Blow Back gasses into the crank case there by building up pressure, this in turn sends an oil film up the breather tube to your air box resulting in your problem.
You could try an oil & filter change (Synthetic) Top jolly with maybe an additive plus similar for the fuel i.e. Red-Ex or similar, it may help but I doubt a cure.
If you want you could extend the breather pipe away from the box into a drip can or similar, be sure to filter it as you don't want to get contamination down in the cases.

Oil in the air chambers


Most likely a blocked crankcase breather filter. This is located just in front (from the driver's perspective) of the air filter box underneath the engine cover. You can either clean it in petrol then fully dry, or replace with an improved version, available from BMW.

Changing air filter 1996 chrysler town and country


loosen the clamp for the air snorkel at the throttle body. Loosen the clamp right under the reserve air chamber thats in between the radiator and the battery. Remove the breather hose from the air chamber. remove the two bolts holding the air chamber to the upper radiator support. remove the air chamber. there will be two retainers that need to be released on the transmission side of the air box and the the air box cover can be removed and the air filter changed

Can a fuel tank breather be unclogged for a craftsman 358? Is the breather the same as the vent plug? I didn't see a fuel tank breather listed in the parts diagram.


Many fuel tanks "breathe" through the gas cap. It lets air in, while keeping the fuel from leaking out at the same time. They also will have two fuel lines going to the tank; one will usually have a weighted filter attached to it so that no matter which way you turn the trimmer, it will fall to the bottom of the tank to pull fuel. The other fuel line will be a return line from the carburetor so that excess fuel pumped into the carburetor can be vented back into the fuel tank.

Model 331877 briggs fuel pump leaks oil out vent


I just got done repairing the very same engine with the same syptoms that you mentioned. I had considerable oil coming out of the fuel pump breather hole (copper colored mesh). The source of the problem: a blown head gasket. This will cause the piston, in the compression cycle, to pressurize the crankcase through the head gasket leak into the valve lifter chamber and push oil out the vacuum tube (bottom hose) leading to the fuel filter . To fix, you will need to first disassemble the cylinder head from the engine. To do that you first need to disconnect the three hoses to the fuel pump. Remove the cover to the air filter, remove the air filter and the screw in the bottom of the filter housing. Remove the four bolts attaching the plastic flywheel cover and remove the cover., remove the cylinder head (8 bolts)and check the head gasket to confirm it is blown (you will probably see some dark brown or black discoloration of the head gasket between the cylinder and valve lifter chamber. Carefully remove all old head gasket material from the block and head surfaces and clean the head bolts. If either your cylinder head or block surface looks ugly, you may need to get them resurfaced (flatness tolerance is very small ) Buy a valve gasket set (contains the head gasket and other needed parts)
Remove the valve rocker arm cover (4 bolts) from the head. Mark the exhaust and intake lifter rods (they are different) Clean the combustion chamber. If your engine has many hours on it, you will want to remove the valves and check the valve rims and seats for wear or pitting. You may want to hand lap the valves to insure they are seating perfectly.
I coated my head bolts with an anti-sieze valve lube compound. The B&S service manual calls for this. Reassemble head and torque head bolts to 220 in.-lbs. (4 stages) Do very accurately. Compress valve springs, install push rods and set clearances between rocker arm and end of valve stem. Turn flywheel to move piston so that both valves are closed before setting clearances. install a new fuel pump on the plastic flywheel housing. I removed the breather from the top of the engine (two small screws) and checked the reed and oil drain hole, and resealed the breather cover (you will need to pull the flywheel to get to one of the breather screws. I used a gray high-temp rtv liquid gasket compound to reseal the rocker arm cover and breather body. Reassemble all parts and screws and use small torques as listed in Briggs Service manual. I put in a new spark plug, changed the oil and filter, and breather tube, and o-ring at the bottom of my oil filler tube. That should do it

sounds like you have a tank breather problem or a ignition module going o/c when it gets a little tempreture on it

check that the tank breather is venting so fuel can flow up to carb fuel pump ?

then put spark tester in line with plug and h/t lead - run and see if spark quits when it gets a little temp on it if so replace the modlue and reset air gap to 0.0010 " and tighten clamping bolts and lfinish up assy & let er rip

Fuel is coming out of the decompretion valve when I try to start it.


sounds like you have a carb ,flooding or breather problem

check breather to make sure tank can let air in

check carb fuel pump for holes , check for debris , check hinge pin & lever and needle for sticking , and check lever hight it should be flush with chamber floor , check metering diaphram as well all diaphrams should be soft and pliable

if in doubt rekit carb with rebuild kit , also check for blocked / restricted muffler

When turning the key to start the car,it just dumps gas into the air breather chamber .its as if the fuel pump continually is pumping fuel as long as you turn the key. its a 3.1 litre


Remove the oil filler cap, let some one turn over the engine and see wetter or not the valves are moving up and down, you may have a broken timing belt!

Oil in air breather


sounds like you have too much oil in the engine (should normally be around 500-600ml when there is too much oil, it gets past the piston rings and pushes it through to the head.
