If the red brake light blinks, or comes on and off intermittently, and there is no change in the feel of the brake pedal, then have the vehicle properly diagnosed by ...
check the abs system for relay and electrical problems
the clicking can be from a cycling relay and the head lights flickering from the power draw for the abs away from the head lights.
this could simply be a loose connection on the handbrake switch but this light is also the brake fluid level warning light so it might be a good idea to check the brake fluid level too. also it might be part of the brake pad warning system ane may indicate that the brake pads are nearing replacement it is also required to replace the warning wires with the pads
Are all the lights flickering? Might be a fuse. Might also be a short.
After checking/replacing fuses, grab a friend and multimeter (or the cheap 12V gages that have a light).
Press the brakes, turn on the lights, etc and put the gages to the appropriate terminals on the lights (if you turn the lights on, put the meter on the terminals of the light, if you're checking the brake, put the meter on the brakes). You should see ~12V (or the light turn on) on each of them, if you see something significantly more or less, there is a short somewhere. Test different wires and try to triangulate the problem area.
If it's flickering while driving, check to see if your brake fluid level is at max level line.
if not at max, add more fluid.
if at max, check brake reservior cap. there should be a float on a stick located under the cap. There shouldn't be any brake fluid inside the float.
If there's fluid in the float then replace brake resercior cap.
note:The float set the brake indicator light to let you know that brake fluid are low. Brake fluid inside the float cause it to sink making the car think that fluid are low.
Most of the time this is because you are alittle low on brake fluid.And that means you need someone to check your brakes. Just incase,your pads could be getting low meineke does this for free. SAFE DRIVEN TIM
Offhand, the brake light warning on most dashboards would indicate that the hand/emergency brake is engaged. If even when the hand/emergency brake is disengaged or is in normal position and the light is still lit, it could indicate that:
the brake fluid in the reservoir is below minimum level;
and possibly the brake shoes/pads need replacement.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
