My Royal Enfield Electra 2009 Classic, Engine Doesn't Stop Even After Turning the Switch/Ignition Off. If I try to stop using the gear then also it keeps going (Ignition Turned Off). After it stop

Royal Enfield Electra Classic 500 CC. Military Green Year 2009. The Engine doesn't cut off even after I turn the on/off switch and ignition. I used gear to stop and it still takes it time to stop (Ignition and switch both turned off). Finally It stops in gear and then Won't start again.. Absolutely Dead.. Killed the 2 Batteries in 2 stopping effort. Anyone can suggest reason for this and fix. Thanks Devendra

Have a bike electrician check it out
I suspect that there is problem relay/regulator in the charging circuit that is allowing the alternator/generator to keep supplying power to the ignition outside the ignition switch circuit
could be a shorted wire
The dead batteries indicates this by discharging through the same fault.

The British concern ceased production in 1971 and several firms took up existing stock to cobble bikes together (Interceptor in particular). Components have been made in India since 1950's. India took full ownership of tooling in 1995 and, I'd guess 1995 would be the first coil ignition apart from Rickman's and Norton-Villiers versions in the early 70's

I don't know if this will work, but I had the same with my triumph bonneville and it turned out to be one of the ignition coils, so maybe you should get them checked.

How to read engine codes on 2009 harley touring

I have a 2008 Road King, so I imagine the method to retrieve the codes would be the same.

Retrieve fault codes:

With engine run/stop switch in the RUN position, hold odometer reset button while turning ignition switch to ON position.

Speedometer back lights wil come on, needle swings to top speed position, indicator lights will come on.

Release reset button.
"diag" should display in odometer.
Push and release odometer reset button. The letter "P" will flash (ECM/ICM info obtainable).
Record any error codes. If none are present, "NONE" will scroll across screen.

Press and hole reset button for more than 5 seconds to go to next mode ("S" = TSM/TSSM/HFSM mode).

When done with all modes, switch off ignition.

Either look up codes in manual, or repost here.

2009 electra Glide Classic rear cylinder doesn't spark its not the coil or wire

Hi D, if you have a CKP sensor it needs compression to send correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially "GROUND" cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm.

I have a 09 electra glide classic. The starter somtimes fails to engage upon starting. It makes a kick out, grinding noise when this happens. What is the problem and how do I solve it?

If the noise is a loud noise that sounds like the starter gears are being ripped out of the starter, it's being caused by the engine "kicking back" when you're trying to start it. What is happening is that the engine is firing on the first upstroke of the pistons. Since the flywheels are not turning very fast at this stage, the ignition fires and the engine actually turns backwards kicking the starter jackshaft out. I can't prove this because I've never seen it before as it's under the primary cover. The old Shovelhead engines was the worst about doing this. In the newer engines this could be caused by several different problems. I'm not sure how the ignition timing is controlled in the newer ECM controlled bikes but the ignition timing could be too high at the low starting speed of the engine. The timing should be in it's retarded setting but may not be. Also, your starter's "hold in" coil in the solenoid section of the starter could be bad and not holding the jackshaft into mesh with the ring gear while the engine is being started.

Good Luck
Steve
