Why does me honda 230 crf only start by pushing it

My honda 230 crf wont start got new battery it has 12 volts but wont click or turn over at all when i press starter button. You can push start it and it starts and runs fine any suggestions?

2007 Honda CRF 230 F will not start

Hi, Brent and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.
4. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
5. Fouled spark plugs.
6. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the choke.
7. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
8. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
9. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched, kinked or blocked.
10. Carburetor float stuck.
11. Fuel injectors clogged.
12. Fuel injectors stuck open.
13. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a cursory reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
14. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
15. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil or plug between ignition sensor and ECM module.
16. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for spark leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
17. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or MAP, CMP, CKP, O2, TPS, ETP, IAC sensors.
18. Faulty neutral, clutch, kickstand safety switch.
19. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
20. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
21. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
22. Security system not disarming alarm needs a reset.
23. Check for engine trouble codes.

My 2005 crf 230f wont start it wont even attempt to turn over when i hit the button. i can on the other hand push start it. do i need a new switch

If you are getting completely nothing no noises or clicks nothing then switch would be great place to start I would undo the switch to have look inside it check for corrosion or loose wire etc but while it is off check the whole way switch to battery and switch to starter motor because can be a fault cut lead loose connect or even just a corroded or loose earth wire will give all the same results
Ps unless you 100% the battery is good - it could be worth connecting to a battery charge and test if turns motor over just to guaranty not just the battery dead before you get the spanners out!

It is a 12 volt system with a 12 volt battery.

Charged battery on bike had funny smell now no life bike is a ccm crx230cc the same bike as a honda crf 230 have i blown the fuse or got a duff battery.

believe the battery may have failed. The burning smell would have been a cell inside of the battery failing. Some of these bikes run a 6 volt system and battery, and if you have hooked it up to a 12 volt charger, than the battery would not have handled the extra voltage and failed. Also a good chance the fuse has blown. Follow the red battery lead from the battery to the coil. somewhere along this wire should be the main ignition fuse.

I'd start with a valve adjustment, if it hasn't been done yet, it is overdue!

Electrical problem

If the battery has been sitting flat... it is probably now stuffed. When left flat for more than a day or 2, a problem develops where the lead plates of the battery become coated with sulphate increasing the batteries internal resistance. Whilst it may measure 12 volts, when you draw any current from it, the volts die away.
Are you able to put a 12 volt lamp across the batt and see what happens?
Do you have any electrical activity when you try to start it, clicking, lights, anything??

Honda CRF 230 dirt bike will not even begin to crank

Check for a good ground from motor to frame and from frame to battery. And if battery is more than 1 - 2 years old (on a dirt bike) replace battery with a known good one. - if this does not fix it check the start switch for dirt and corrosion
