Typically carburated sportbike fans will come on in the 205-212*F range and go off at around 175-190. A fuel injected model will be higher coming on around 215-225 and going off at 185-195. FYI If you are having a overheat problem with this model I have seen a hard to diagnose condition of the water pump impellor slipping on the shaft due to shearing of the impellor. It will circulate water when checked cold because there is no pressure in the system. However when hot no water circulates and the engine overheats untill the hot light comes on even with the fans running. Requires water pump replacement to fix. Good luck.

Cooling fans come on with the heater blower motors switch. This can't be factory is it.

Hello and no this is not factory. The cooling fans are designed to come on once the engine tempture reaches a certain tempture to keep the vehicle from over heating. The blower motor switch controls the heat/ac inside the vehicle. There is no reason I can think of for the cooling fans to be tied into the blower motor switch. Hope this is helpful

2008 Yamaha YZF-R1 engine overheating

Hi, Elcapxy and the usual suspects are:
1. Engine oil level and SAE weight are too low or not circulating.
2. Insufficient or blocked air flow over the engine.
3. Heavy combustion chamber carbon deposits.
4. Ignition timing retarded due to faulty MAP, CKP, or CMP sensor.
5. Carburetor jetted too lean.
6. Leaking intake or exhaust valve.
7. Water coolant old or low change every two years.
8. Water pump failure.
9. Radiator clogged, cap loose or malfunctioning.
10. Radiator fans not coming on.
11. Clutch slipping, brakes dragging, heavy load, towing a trailer etc.
12. Idling too long without moving.
13. For constant hot weather temperatures, mountain, or desert riding conditions consider adding an oil cooler and or cylinder head cooler.
