I have a Honda vf400f its been stood a while were I bought it from it wont start ive drained and put new petrol in ive cleaned carb and spark plugs .do I need new plugs they were black but I cleaned them...

Take out the plug, attach the lead on the electrode and crank the engine. If the sparks show, the plug is ok. If the plug is fouled have you cleaned the electrode where it sparks with emery paper or sandpaper? Try another plug, only hold against a metal earth with an insulated plier to prevent you getting a jump. Failing that put a metal Philips cross head screwdriver where the lead goes onto the plug, again insulate and see if a spark jumps from the lead to an earthed part, then you will know that the spark is there but the plug is faulty. In fuels mixed with oil( 2 stroke engines) plugs do fail without warning so you may as well keep one or more for emergencies.

While changing the spark plugs on the mazda6 i noticed some spark plugs were practically drenched in oil, one seemed to have engine coolant, what can be reasons for this? Head Gasket?

sea foam is a type of foam created by the agitation of seawater,particularly when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter that will just clogg an block the engine. your head gasket is gone you will need to replace the head gasket an probably flush the engine too... Hope this helps

My Mitsubushi Space Star Car won't Start. What can I try?

spark plugs are deep in the head yet you should get all the the old fuel out first, stale fuel wont ignite and will also clogg fuel filter. you need a mix of atleast 70% new fuel even then its not good for the injecters. If its a manual gearbox a tow start is a quick fix although no go for auto's. cant be much wrong if car was fine when parked, plugs-fuel-filter and possibly fuel pump for sure. If that doesnt fix take plug out put in lead and crank engine to be sure you have spark even just put any plug you know works in lead leaving your plugs in engine just to check for spark y turning over engine looking for spark on plug good spark will be blue but any spark is good.

I bought a mgf vvc off a friend and she sed the head gasket had gone so i replaced gasket and had head skimed and put it all back togeather again but car try's to start but thats it it has spark b

The fuel pump incorporates a inertia switch,The switch is next to the ECM,you may have triggered,reset it by pressing the red top.If that doesnt do it the pressure regulator uses a spring diaghram modified by a vacuum signal,remove the vacuum signal (just to start)

Car turns over but does not start. Battery good

If it over heated, could have bad head gasket's, fill radiator with water, crank engine with radiator cap off, if water is push out of radiator while cranking, bad head gaskets', also remove spark plug's, crank engine if any water, bad head gasket, also when spark plug's removed, check for any water on them.If there is any water on plug's, bad head gasket, also could try doing a cylinder compression test, if bad compression, head gasket, no compression, wont start that way.

The car had been running rough...bought spark plugs, has new battery checked all fues...wont start...fuel cut off light comes on but goes out...a couple of times when I started it alot of white exhaust...

His is probably not want you want for and answer, but;
These are two of several signs of a blown head gasket; it runs rough because when the engine cools after running, it is sucking coolant in to the combustion chambers and wetting the plugs. Once started, the white fog is the heated coolant passing through the engine and out of the tailpipe.
Depending on how bad the failure is, you may also find oily stuff in your coolant overflow bottle and a creamy appearance on the oil dipstick.
Sorry, this is not an easy fix; the head gasket needs replacing and the cylinder head and block should be checked for warpage before the engine is reassembled. When the gasket fails, the head will need resurfacing, the block may be still OK.
