Main fuse keeps blowing

Every time i try to install my load test battery, my main fuse keeps popping. if its grounded, what would be the best approach in trouble shooting?

You stated your loadtested battery? Try another known good battery as I have seen very odd things happen with these maintainence free batterys sometimes such as polarity swapping. This would cause the same main fuse blowing as if you were hooking the battery up backwards.Then begin by un plugging the ignition switch. If fuse blowing stops the problem is in the harness somewhere between the fuse and ign. switch. Possible wire pinched or rubbed through and grounding. From the ignition switch the main fuse voltage goes to the distribution(common) side of the fuse box. Inspect the wiring from the switch to the fuse box. This problem has to be pre fuse box in location otherwise the lower amperage circuit fuse in the box would be blowing. Good luck!

Hi, Russ before diagnosing your blown fuse issue check the bottom of your seat if it's metal and comes in close proximity to the positive battery post to need to take the necessary steps to ensure there is no contact (electrical tape, thick rubber insulation, hammer a dent in the seat bottom etc.) also you are going to need a wiring from your service manual a test light, an ohmmeter and plenty of extra fuses. My bike keeps blowing the indacator/brake fuse when using high rev's


Hi, Mark before diagnosing your blown fuse issue you are going to need a wiring from your service manual a test light, an ohmmeter and plenty of extra fuses. If you turn on your ignition switch and immediately blow a fuse you have a hard/dead short and is usually easy to find. With a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder start stabbing the wire/s that leads away from the fuse holder and towards the ignition switch, you test light will illuminate validating the short. When the test light fails to illuminate you have passed the short and need to back up until the test light illuminates, then look in the immediate area for the short.

Main 30 amp fuse keeps blowing when i plug the 4 wire fuse top back on after replacing 30 amp fuse. any suggestions

Fucs keeps blowing out on 1977 blazer


It depends what the fuse is powering and how or what your doing when it blows. Does just a few things stop when the fuse is blown. Say brake lights and turning signals for example. Then try to figure out how to disconnect part of whats a load on that fuse. Say unplug or remove half the load. If the fuse still blows then you can determine that whatever is off, is not the problem, and whatever you left connected is. Slow process of elimination. IF your blowing a main fuse thats powering other fuses then use the fuse block itself to troubleshoot with. But thats harder because the small fuse will likely have blown first. IF a main fuse is feeding smaller fuses, pull all the smaller fuses, replace the main, and then install the smaller ones one at a time until it blows again. Whatever just blew the fuse is the short. IT's probably better to use an volt/ohm meter and measure the resistants to ground. Low resistants is the short. First remove the fuse,, power up the circuit, Carefully measure the voltage to ground. The side of the fuse that has voltage is the source or battery. The opposite side is the load. Now remove power, measure the load side to ground. Look for low resistants. Remove or disconnect bulbs or what ever the load is. When the resistants jumps up or high, then you found your short.

My 2005 honda vt750 shadow keeps blowing the 30 amp fuse at low revs. just kills the main power and stalls. . Can anyone help??

What do you do when your amp keeps blowing fuses


First off which fuse is it? The inline fuse from the battery or the amplifiers power supply fuse? Blowing the main fuse from the battery is caused by either the load (your amp) drawing too much current or you have a short to ground somewhere. Maybe there is a tear in the 12Vdc line and it is shorting to the chassis of your car. If the amps power supply fuse is blowing as soon as it turns on your amp has a shorted power supply. This will require internal component changes by a technician. If it is blowing after operation at high volumes I would say change the impedance that the amp is driving. If you are at 2 ohm try to rewire your speakers for four ohm. (go from parallel to series wiring then bridge mono or operate the amp in stereo mode)
