Souns possible that the pads have become glazed a very light abrasive to the pad face should help wearing pads in on bikes is never the same and it depends on the type of pad you use the higher friction copper based are the better and worth looking into as they last longer and protect the disk also hope this helps you

Can you tell me why my 1300 vtx wears ut rear brakes so quickly? i don't ride them -they dont drag- and i really don't feel that i use them all that much

Normally, front brakes do 80% of your stopping. If the rear brakes are being use more often, then they'll wear out quicker. Seems like the back brakes wear out quicker on many motorcycles. There may be an adjustment cable to take more pressure off the back brakes. You can adjust the front brakes or check for air in the system on the fronts.

Brake lights

The taillight should be on at all times. The brakelight should come on when the front or rear brakes are applied. Start by disconnecting the front brake light switch then the rear to see which switch is broken. Also check the bulbs. I have seen them short out internally. The filament inside the bulb break and contacts the other circuit.
