Sometimes during shipping the box gets squashed resulting in bent forks. Use a scissor car jack or reversable clamp to widen forks to correct width. Use cardboard to protect paintwork. This will work as long as forks are not too badly damaged.

SOURCE: how to assemble the front tire to hannah montana 20 in. bike

hi,
When you try to put the wheel in, is it getting caught on the brake, if it is, the brake caliper unhooks from the cable

Are the forks bent, you can tell because if one of the fork legs line up with one side but not the other then the chance are that the forks have been bent somehow.

SOURCE: front fork too narrow to fit tire

sounds like the box may have been squashed. send it back to where you got it from or its not that hard to spread the forks apart by pulling them. used to do this all the time when servicing mountain style bikes that have been thrashed by customers :)

SOURCE: Fork is too narrow for front wheel

One solution, is a large, wedge shaped piece of wood.
Try hammering that into, or the forks onto it.
That should open them up, without damaging the finish.
Good luck with that.

You mean somebody stepped on it in the crate? Give it a pull apart while stepping on it, make it fit, the fork needs to go in between the bearing race and the nut. Make sure the bearings are not tight, not loose either. Hope this helps.

Why is the front wheel not fitting to fork? I think its bent but ours brand new, just arrived today

Huffy bikes have notoriously low quality standards. A couple things could be causing your issue. Excessive paint in the drop outs; file the extra paint off the inside of the drop out where the hub axle slides in. The forks could be either too narrow or too wide, this is actually pretty normal with department store bikes, up to about a half inch in either direction. More than that, it could have been damaged in shipping. Since the forks are made from steel they can easily flex out, or in, a half inch or so to fit the hub width. If you get the wheel on and you see that the forks are not parallel then this is a defect in my opinion and the unit should be returned. (it is also my opinion that this is one of the reasons not to buy bicycles at a department store. Professional assembly and service after the sale are the hallmarks of a good bicycle shop, and one just isn't going to get that at Target or Walmart or through the mail)

Front wheel

If you haven't got it done already, maybe this is the solution.
Newer bicycles have a device to prevent the front wheel coming off so you will not wreck the bike if the bolts get loose. This is a washer type thing that has an ear on it. The ear fits into a hole in the fork. You can take the bolts completely off the shaft and the wheel will stay attached to the fork by those ears on those washers that are in the tiny holes in the fork.
Be blessed.

I am unable to fit the fork on the front wheel axle bar. It is too tight and won't fit. Do I need to force and open it a little bit?

If it is the original tire than you might have to spread the forks a little bit. If it is not the original front tire than the axle might be to long for that bike. In any case you are on the right track be careful when trying to spread the forks as to not spread to much and also don't get hurt in process. Good Luck...

Schwinn Scotch bike. Can't get the front wheel on. Have removed 1 nut and 1 washer from each side but the forks will not fit down onto the "screws" almost as if the forks are not set wide enough.

Stand the bike on seat and handlebars.
Have somebody steady the bike.
Bend the forks outward with both hands as you lower wheel into place.
