Question about 1989 Suzuki DR 750 S

1 Answer

Wrong terminals I tried jump starting my DR 750 and i unfortunatly crossed the cables. Thus shorting out the battery. Now the problem is, my ignition is not working at all. Nothing switches on. . . . . I also need advice on the fuel pump. Mine has stopped working and would like to know if it possible to replace it with an electronic fuel pump from a small car

Susuki 2005 GSX R 750 cranks over, has fulle ,no spark, tip switch is ok,Kick stand switch OK,Nutral switck OK,Clutch Switch OK, Kill Switch working,Fues OK, But want start,What is left to check?

Hi, Gene if you have a CKP sensor it needs compression to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in the head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Non starter ignition lights only come on when battery charger is on. starts when jump leads are connected. as soon as you disconnet leads dies straight away and no ignition lights. battery fully charged.

either the battery is not good or the battery terminals are bad.
the ignition lights should come on , if they do when the charger is connected.
I assume you are connecting the charger or jump cables to the battery terminals

Be careful jumping of a bigger battery it can spike the regulator when the engine starts and tries to produce 50-60 amps

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, try with the sidestand folded up and / or the clutch lever pulled in.  Likewise determine if there is a clicking sound when the start button is pressed:
  • if there is a clicking sound, locate the starter relay. Follow the big cable from the battery's + terminal; it would end in nother terminal of the starter relay:
  1. turn ignition ON and kill switch to RUN;
  2. short the 2 big terminals of the starter relay. Expect a big start. If the starter spins, startr relay is faulty.
  • if there is no click, then the safety interlocks are preventing the relay from engaging. Check the neutral switch/wire and sidestand switch/wire.
It is of course assumed that the battery is fully charged and that the battery cablles/connectors are clen and tight.  Postback result(s) of tests.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
