Question about 1992 Suzuki DR 650 RS-E

1995 Suzuki DR650 running rough

O-kay here's the problem.  My 95 DR650 runs rough but will smooth out for a bit during the cousre of a ride but always returns to running rough.  I've pulled the Carb cleaned and inspected all parts, changed the gas tank(cause the vibrations cracked the base where it bolts in), changed plugs, checked coils and wires, cleaned then replaced airfilter.  Frankly I don't know much about cars but I really can't think of anytning else.  I love the bike but right now I want to shoot it.  Anyone got a suggestion. No shooting it isn't the answer.  Could it be a timing issue some how?

When you pulled the carby down DID you remove the main and pilot jets and look through them to see if they were clean.

the only problems beside damaged engine is cloged ar partaly cloged jets and or the insulator that goes between the carby and cly is leaking (split)..

my bet will be jets if the bike has been sitting fow a few weeks..

Ignition timing is preset and only very badly worn camchain or valve-train issue would have an effect.

You may have a problem with the floatbowl height.
It is an incremental fix, in that you set it and see how it responds.

The fuel availability is governed by the height of the float levels. This can be adjusted by bending the small brass tab on the float spindle. Try adding more fuel first, or bend tab upwards very slightly. you don't have to remove the carby every time, just loosen the front and back manifold clamps and rotate carby so you can acces float chamber screws. The float pin can be pulled out and tab reset. Don't forget to turn fuel off and have a spill tray ready when undoing floatbowl drainplug each time.
Site below has exploded view of the carby with part names, links to all sections of the bike.
Clean all the jets with a carburetor solvent and check fuel line for perishing. Are inlet manifolds in good condition and not have a chalky feel on the insides, they should be shiny and feel slippery for efficient results.

Goodluck, cheers!

sounds to me like your jets are running rough, wich makes you loose power and make the bike run like sh*t, so simple re-jet it (65-75 dollars) and it will be running like a charm again

there is usually a screen in the fuel ****/valve that will catch any nasty goop that may have been in the tank. Also there might be a screen before or right after the fuel pump. you need to eyeball these to see if they are stopped up. good luck

I got lost with translation on the ebay link, but I would say no to the camshaft. The image on the site you linked was of the some sprockets only, again no. The two models have different camshaft journal cup placement. I own the '90RS model (recent total engine rebuild, so have workshop manual) and looking at diagrams (site link below) of the top end of the 2000, they have different camshaft sprocket connecting faces. The site below has exploded views of all parts of the motorcycle, 95% of DR650 models are there. Cheers.

Check the fuel filter and petcock screen in the bottom of the tank. If either is dirty it will cause what you describe.

Just bought a 92 dr650,noise coming from crankcase, and vibration at idle and riding. someone told me it could be balance chain out of adjustment. is that hard to fix.

If your bike has a counter balance shaft, it is run by a chain, and's a major job to get at it. This shaft has a specific timing so it counteracts the throw of the piston to lessen the vibration. If you are to check on this yourself, I recommend a factory manual!!!

1995 DR 650 engines rund rough most of the time

Carburetor issues will cause that. Could be anything in the carb from worn seals to worn needles or seats. Do you have a manual for the bike? Clymers or Haynes gives a fairly detailed procedure for a carb rebuild. There is a large free manual here, not sure which year it is. Do pay close attention to which carbs they mention, I believe the carb has changed over the years.
