you will need to defrost it. the freezer is what keeps your fridge cool. the vent where the cool air goes up to your fridge is sealed or frozen.
unplug the fridge and open the doors and let it defrost.
plug it back in after a few hours and it should be working again.
my Matytag msd2456dew fridge fan is running, no ice bulid up on coils in freezer section, but no cold air to freeze anything in freezer section or cold air in fridge section. what can be the problem?
Sham
Clean it up. Check under it and behind, clean ,vacume and or blow out all dust and check the fins on the bottom, a soft brush and portable air compressor work really well but very dusty, take out side if possible, or just vacume really well.
Have you checked the Heater element for the defrost to see if it's good? It sounds like the coils inside your freezer are freezing over into a solid block of ice which in turn will cause it to stop cooling.....efficiently. When you leave the unit unplugged, it gives the unit a chance to thaw and it work properly until the coils freeze over again. If heater is not the problem then Defrost Thermostat probably is. Both located in back of Freezer.
Sounds like a problem with defrost system , It could be one of there components , timer, heater, or defrost thermostat. try advancing the timer, down at the lower area behind the grill. with a screw driver by putting it into the dial advance and turn it till it clicks and the unit shuts off. now you should see red glow at bottom of back panel in freezer or here sizzling . if this does not happen then it will be the heater or the thermostat.
The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.
Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).
Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.
Gazzo, You are on the right track. I've been finding a lot of compressor failures on these Amana's. It's possible that the overload and relay for the compressor failed, but Im more inclined, from what I've seen, that the compressor is the problem. The compressor is covered under warranty, parts and labor for 5 years. I would call for warranty service...Catriver...post back.
