It's an engine safety mechanism, to shut down the engine when rpm goes beyond 10K.Even you are travelling at 140Kmps rpm won't reach 10K in normal case.Probably you have to change vacuum piston kit to resolve the issue completely.

Tachometer red light indicator flashing indicate engine RPM is beyond 10K and as a safety mechanism, engine will shutdown to prevent engine damage.Even you are travelling at 140Kmph rpm won't reach 10K in normal case. Permanent resolution is change vacuum piston kit to resolve the issue completely.

Hello Buddy

I have 2011 manufactured model pulsar 220 dts-i (carb), its 76,000+ km on odo, but i ride that more when ma odometer was broken (+8000km).
It was running fine till few week back, now the problem is, even if bike actually running on around 3-4K rpm its shows above 7-8K, n even sometime crosses 12K too :D. I showed the bike in showroom they said they need to check the bike they don't have idea about that probably: /. So I got her back to home, as I know how well they service the bike, so I can't trust them.

Well I think that the problem is with the Pickup coil, the one is located in the engine case that of gear shift side, not the main coil, there is one more coil blue in color. (square type)

Earlier modifications were as follows:
1. Catalyst Removed.
2. K&N cone type filter.
3. Full synthetic motul oil
4. Bosch iridium spark plugs

Rest all stock
Now I have to check the pulse unit / pickup coil replacing with new one.
I hope that might solve the problem. Coz it regulates the firing order of vehicle, suppose if rmp meter fluctuates, it means firing takes place before the piston reaches TDC and makes it fire earlier, making bike to choke and misfire, wasting the fuel and drastically decreasing the mileage drastically.

I hope ur stating abt the red light that blinks on the tachtometer...
Its nothing but the reserve fuel.....
Usually the red light blinks at 9000 rpm in all bajaj vehicles but pulsar 220 would be touching 11000 rpm...
If u had maintained it will it will cross arnd 11500...
Dnt wry abt the red light that is blinking....

  • Pranjal Rawat Dec 10, 2012

its not allowed to push engine beyond that point i think. But it can go on for more speed as my throttle is half open, but iam afraid to open in this situation.whether it can harm my engine!!!

SOURCE: Gearbox issues

You need new shift forks. Chances are the parts are all interchangable. The dealer can check the part numbers to see if they are the same. nWish I had it here in Texas, USA. It would only take anhour or so to fix it.

SOURCE: pulsar's smoothness changes after few kms

ok so its a brand new bike.. though the engine comes with proper boring nowdays but still you shold maintain low speeds  initially as  they are bits which take time to settle. did you ever meet an accident?? this may be a handling problem too..,may be the bike is disbalanced. get it checked in the service centre only.. Hope it works..:))

SOURCE: Bike wobbling problem

I have bajaj pulsar 150CC 2003 Model. Since last few months (3-4) months I am facing problem with my bike. Whenever I speed up around 40-60, bike starts to wobble. I feel like I might loose balance, after the speedometer reaches 65 KMPH it moves with no wobbling. I got my bike checked from the mechanic from whom I had got all the servicing done so far. He said there is no problem, but I could feel it. Can anyone tell what could be the problem and how to fix it.

Dear,

The problem seems to be be in the clutch assymbly,
As this is a typical bajaj Pulsar problems,
You are suggested to get the clutch play adjusted and if found damaged or worn out, kindly get the new one installed.

thanx

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

IMHO, I think that the broken cable is what is causing the problems. It "confuses" the programing of the CPU or computer.
