Question about Harley Davidson XL 1200 C Sportster Custom Motorcycles

If you are talking about just removing them for the handle bars, look on the front of the grip assembly, in line with the turn signal post. You will see a hole where an allen wrench set screw is. Just loosen those screws until the signal unit pulls free. If you are not going to put them back into the same place, you might want to remove the set screw completely so you don't loose them due to vibration. If you are going to remove the turn signals completely and not reinstall them, you may want to look into some kind of load resistance to plug into where they were plugged in so the back ones still work (if you are keeping the rear one on and use them).

Neg cable corroded thru.
I bet you have 12v at the battery and less at the other end of the neg cable.
I had the same problem.

Gap your plugs to 38 thou. Check all your bulbs (one burned out will affect the rest) Take a look at all your fuses and make sure they are all ok. Otherwise you are probably looking at a wiring short which will require trouble shooting of the elctrical system. Buy your self a service manual for your bike, this will help you a lot.

He's right! The key fob for the security system needs a clear signal to the module to disarm the bike. That's why the flashers turn on. If the fob is at the bike, the security module has lost it's memory, or the antenna for the key fob reception is not connected. You also need to squeeze the clutch lever to allow the engine to engage also...new safety feature i think for 07. Hope this helps.

Contact me directly and I'll try to scan you a copy of a wiring diagram for your 82 Ironhead. firstname.lastname@example.org The diagram I have is quite large and I'll have to send it to you in two .JPG format files. If that would be sufficient, let me know.
