Question about 2000 Yamaha V-Max
It fires like it wants to start but wont stay started
What i would try is always check for spark if u are getting spark then it must be a fuel problem. with the bad fuel we get now thats what i think is wrong pull the air box off and put gas in the carbs and see what it does if it runs then u no to pull the carbs off and clean them out then try if from there make sure u are getting gas to your carbs first that its not a plugged fuel line. well good luck hope this helps u

SOURCE: bike wont start if not
If, at any point, your bike has sat for more than about a year, the carburetors could have clogged jets. That means that the carbs will have to be disassembled and cleaned.
Otherwise, make sure the choke is operating fully and that there isn't any excess slack, or free play in the choke cable. Take out any excess free play by using the adjuster on the choke cable.
