Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

Power restrictor I have a 2008 Hyosung GV 650 cruiser. I want to get rid of the power restriction. I have read about replacing carb slides, fileing the throttle cable, and remapping the ECU, or even pulling the catalitic out of the exhaust. Has someone gone through this that can give me a definite answer? Thanks.

Definite answer is DONT DO IT. Motorcycles are balanced one part against another, to provide the best performance possible for the majority of riders, short of re-engineering. If you start fooling with these things willy nilly, in addition to polluting the air and annoying the neighbors, you could ruine your investment and hurt yourself. Is 100 + miles per hour in fewer than 15 seconds not sufficient for you?

The bike is restricted for learner riders currently. It does about 60 miles per hour(100 Km/hr) but it is apsolutely wound out to do this. As far as hurting myself I have been riding for 30+ years and this is the smallest bike I have owned. There is an engineered solution for my issue that is a factory fix (which is what I need clarification on), and you obviously don't know Hyosung bikes or the learner restrictions that are put into them for learner classifications in Australia. (just a guess since you put the speed in miles per hour)

absolutely is what it should have said. Didn't major in typing in college. lol

You are correct on all counts but one ... you arent an engineer and you still shouldnt take this job on until you get engineering advice. Not free advice from a old man with slightly over45 years in the saddle of a wide variety of motorcycles. The hurting yourself was both actual and methaphorical. Mechanical work usually involves at least one broken knuckle and if you take off on this project while not having all the proper information, you could damage the bike and "hurt yourself" in the wallet. Yes, I know, I am not the best key boarder around. Thanks for yor interest in FisYa.com

SOURCE: replaced throttle cable on pw50 but can't seem to get it adjusted

If I understand your problem correctly this may help. There should be a spring just a bit smaller diameter than the slide that mounts between the top of the slide and the bottom of the carb cap. No spring means no snap-back. I am assuming there are no kinks in the cable and the cable was routed correctly when installed. Lots of times if the cable is not routed properly the gas tank will "stretch" the cable when the tank is re-mounted. Route the cable properly and the problem goes away..... As far as the slack in the cable, there is a an adjusting screw on the top of the carb (where the cable ends) and an adjuster screw at the hand throttle also where the cable ends. Some bikes have an extra adjuster mid cable but I don't think yours does, (working from memory here). If none of the above work then my guess is that the parts counter handed you the wrong part.

Most likely the carbs need cleaning and adjusting. You may want to richen the A/F ratio when you do it. They are set really lean from the factory. I would go 1/4-1/2 turn out on the A/F screw.

the restrictor is managed by the ECU unit as its a chip, if you take it to any main dealer they will be able to restrict or de-restrict for you.

How do i synchorinze the carbs on the Hyosung GV250.

You will need a monometer with with separate connections and readings for each carb. You will then need to make adjustments to each carb's butterfly until all of the monometer's readings are equal.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Assuming everything is stock with no aftermarket add-ons, no carb issues, have you tried 1 1/4 turn from full in?

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Any ideas how to de restrict hyosung gv650 or

The most common way is move the throttle cable from position one to position two. Check to see if this method will work for you by watching the throttle mechanism at the engine while an assistant turns the throttle (engine not running). When the assistant can turn the handle no farther, see if you can push the mechanism open farther with your finger or a screwdriver. If you can, then you will be able to derestrict the bike by repositioning the cable.
