Rear carb is not getting enough fuel or flooding on rear carb a small black rubber hose either a vacum or air hose fuel pours from this hose aswell

Rear carb on a 96 intruder is either flooding or not getting enough fuel.on the same carb.a small black rubber hose over to the side of carb fuel pours from this hose no work has ever been done on carb before

SOURCE: Fuel pouring out of overflow tube

Yes, it sounds EXACTLY like a stuck float. You may be able to fix it yourself depending on how accessable the offending carburetor is. Quite often you can free up a stuck float by setting up a bit of vibration. Give this a try > tap the side of the carb repeatedly using the plasitc end of a screwdriver. You are not looking to hammer the thing to death, just create minor shocks. The shocks / vibration will often free up a stuck float. Please rate this solution and let me know if all went well.

Hello ddsaul2...If it's only been a day since the shop adjusted the carbs. you need to return it to them and make them do it right.
Sounds like a float valve is stuck and not closeing.They may have cracked a seat... There could be a pin hole in one of the floats causeing it to fill up with gas and sink. You can check and make sure all the vacuum lines are connected and possibly GENTLY tap on the carb fuel bowls to see if the float might be stuck alll the way down. Personally...if i paid for a carb tune i'd make them fix it. Surely they gurantee their work.

I have been working on my carb today,the pipe from the bottom of the carb should just run down by the bottom of the swinging arm,there should be another pipe from the pipe on the left side of the carb just above the fuel intake which also runs down to the swinging arm and connect to nothing.

yes, the breather line hooks to the petcock on the line facing the back, the fuel line hooks to the larger one. the line from the breather is actually a vacume line that turns on the fuel, without it you will not get fuel out of the petcock unless it is in the prime position.

SOURCE: Carb (Mikuni) flooding on Yamaha Vmax motor cycle

You will have to adjust the float pin of tht particular carb and don't remove them off the rack..just pull them out of the engine and work on the one tht needs attention.

Hi Richard,
If fuel is pouring from Carb it could be that the needle valve has stuck. This would allow fuel to just pour through the carb. Cleaning needle valve seat may work if that is the case

sounds like not enough vacum to draw fuel .faulty diaphram pump. gas cap should have a breather assembly to allow air to enter gas tank and prevent a vacum lock as well

Plug wet with fuel


You need to pressure test the carb, if the needle is leaking in the seat it will just flood all the time, if you do not have a small pulb pressure tester you may need to get the local dealer to do it, or just fit a new rubber tipped needle and hope this will cure it, if there is two hoses to the carb make sure you have connected the pipes in the right orientation, the suction side of the primer should pull fuel from the carb, and dump back to the tank, it does not push fuel into the carb, this will make it flood.

Carb overflows when not running


Im not familier with your specific bike but here are some ideas:-

First check the float valves, these are usualy in the bottom half of the carb. Take the bottom off, and you will see a plastic float, attached to the float will be a small bullet shaped piece of metal with a rubber coan on the top (may have to remove it to see it).
Remove the float & the valve, make sure there is nothing stuck on the float valve rubber tip, and nothing is in the hole where the float valve sits.
If this looks ok, next check the float levels, you may need a Haynes manual or similar to find out specificaly how you do it as you may need measurements.
Dont panic, this is a fairly simple thing to do (trust me Im no expert), you will need to repeat this process on all the other carbs (if you have more than 1)

You can also check your vacume valve (if you have one). Its a small pipe that connects from the carbs to the peterol tank (This is an additional pipe to the fuel pipe), this creates suction when the engine is running opening the fuel tap on the tank, letting fuel flow, if the tap is stuck, or the vacume pipe is damaged this could allow fuel to flood the carbs, (shouldnt if the float valves work correctly, but worth a try)

G'day,
Usually there is a hose that connects to both number 2&3 cylinders at the front of the carbies.These two hoses commonly join together with a tee connector & a single hose comes off this tee. leaving this hose dissconnected allows the engine to **** air.This air is being drawn directly into the engine-making the mixture incorrect(too lean),as this air has not had fuel mixed with it.Therefore it needs to be re-connected to its original position(or at least pluged).
Generaly-Here in Australia- this hose connects to the fuel tap to a small spigot at the rear.
This type of fuel tap only allows fuel to flow to the carbies when there is vacume applied to the tap by that hose.This is to help stop the chance of the bike flooding.

see the o ring marked part 670- see the part to the right with no number-it has a little spigot on the bottom- Your hose goes there.

You may need to rebuild the fuel tap with a new diaphram kit.

The fuel tap has a small rubber diaphram and plunger, which can go hard, stick closed , or wear out and get a hole.
Also check the vacumn hose than opperates the tap is in good condition
Pri bypasses the vacumn opperated fuel tap, sometimes this can cause the carbs to flood or have higher than normal float levels..
Running it on prime can also cause the carbs to flood fuel into the engine filling the sump, which then s ucks fuel vapour through the crank breather into the airbox, and then through the carbs causing over rich.
If this has happened you also need to change the oil and fit a new air filter element

How do i get it out to put new one in


find the offending carb or carbs by pulling float bowl over flow hoses to the side and starting motor, 1 or move hose will be pouring fuel, follow hose to offending carb, unmount all 4 carbs from motor,(unmount tank,1 bolt 2 hoses,2 wires) then (unscew hose clamps from front and back of carbs) next(reomove scew from very top font of air box,near metal cross bar behind fuel tank) then wiggle carbs to separate from rubber intakes,unhook trhottle cables pull carbs out one side(either side of bike) once off turn upside down,take 4 bowl screws out ,remove cover,take out small pin holding floats ,needle will come with it,use the right wrench and uscrew brass seat needle came out of(make sure any rubber o ring come with) reinstall seat &any orings take old needle off float install new one,put needle in hole of seat,pin float put cover back on bottom of carb,re assemble bike.I hope you've maked where everything goes,a little oilon rubber helps with reassembly .

2000 Buell Blast will not turn over


You have fuel in the tank, but is the float bowl full? Loosen the bowl drain, see if ya got gas. All the new bikes have vacuum operated fuel petcocks, and it takes forever in the spring to crank em long enough to fill the bowl. Take the line off the petcock, fill it with a small funnel with fuel, then put it back on, and fire it up.

The guy i bought this bike from was an idiot the hoses and vacume lines are messed up i need help with any diagrams help the lost.THANKS


Small bore pipe from inlet side of no 2 carb goes to the small bore pipe on the petrol tap (this is the vacume swich pipe)
Large bore reinforced pipe goes from the large pipe on the petrol tap to the (hidden and bugger to get at) connector that points up (on the airbox side) between no's 2 & 3 carbs on the airbox
A large bore pipe goes from the rear facing connector on top of the centre cover on top of the cam cover (located under the frame beneath the petrol tank) to the connectot on the air box (this is the breather pipe)
Ensure that all pipes are hole/split free, secured with clips and that each inlet mainfold rubber (between the carb and cylinder block) has it's vacume plug fitted (located at the bottom of each rubber)
