Look at the top of the carb if it is round and held on by 4 phillips screws it is stock keihn if it has a brass screw with what looks like an X leaned at about 45deg, its an S&S if it is a small rectangle with screws on the ends its a mukini you can try to look at the sides of the carb you might see who makes the one you have and any good shop has jets or can get jets why do you think you need to rejet contact us

Hello i bougt a vt1100c shadow with aftermmarket muffelers thay say thare sremin eagal pipes. I dont know the engine back fires as soon you let off the gas or downshift. could rejeting the carbs solve...


When back pressure is reduced on the exhaust system it effects the fuel mixture on a downdraft type of carb. Same as when the air intake is modfied from stock. The carbs are jetted for best performance with factory equipment....rejetting will help if you install the right jets, it can also make it worse if you don't. A vacuum leak will also make it pop through the exhaust.

Maved to augusta ga from las vegas nv. my 2004 fatboy when at idle will not stay running without the choke 1/3 out


If your carb is stock, it should have a #45 slow speed jet in it for this area. I'd go to either a #48 or a #50 slow jet. I live in Forsyth, Ga. and I usually put the #48 in most Twin Cam 88 bikes that have changed the exhaust or are popping back out of the carb. If you think this is the problem try changing the jet. I don't know what the altitude is in Las Vegas and I have no idea if Harley rejets the carb for different areas. The CV carb usually is not that sensitive to altitude like the older type carbs were. The Idle Speed Stop Screw is located at the top right of the carb. Turn the inwards (clockwise) to increase the idle speed.

If you bike is fuel injected, you'lll have to take it to a shop to have this problem corrected.

no offense, but if you dont know where and how to change the jets on the carb, then you are better off leaving it to someone that knows those carbs. Rejetting a carb can be a tricky thing, and can also lead to a carb that junk if you don't know exactly what your doing.

Take it to a shop they will change them cheap.

to start with you need to purchase a jet kit. it will come with instructions. the stock needle is non adjustable. also you need bigger jets.

I would rejet the carbs. I would go one size up on the jets. That should clear up the problem.

1997 FatBoy backfires through the carberator.New carb.


Carburator backfires are almost always due to a lean condition. Check your intake manifold for air leak. Star the bike, warm it up and let it idle on the kickstand. From the air breather side spray a bit of wd40 onto the intake manifold (one side at a time) and listen for the idle to pick up. If it does, you're sucking air around the intake. This should be fixed right away as it will just get worse and could result in burned valves. If this is not the case then check the main jet in your carb and get one that is richer. Trial and error is the only way to determine the best jet for your bike.

The Haynes Shop manuals are God sends. www.haynes.com They have everything you need and then some to be able to tear down and rebuild your bike and maintain it through the years. tend to be about $40 but are worth hundreds if you ask me.

Carb ploblem


sounds like you have a new style holley carb it is the only one thats fits that discription (s&s used to have one also, but discontinued it years ago.) you might try adjusting the accelerator pump so it squirts less gas in the engine apon accerellating that is the biggest culprit when you see carbon(black soot) in the carb you said you think it is jetting did you buy the bike used? if so ask the old owner what jets were installed and does he have any other jets if you can.
