Timing help please 89 kx 250 2stroke

I have a 89 kx 250 2 stroke and I need to know how to set the timing on it I know the marks need to Lin up just need to know how to set when at top dead center ?? Not sure this is my first 2 stroke whole motor rebuilt

This can be seen in the photo I posted in the DC conversion thread. If you have a 2K-2 the M5 holes in the cases for the 2K-3 will be unused. The upper hole will be visible. If an M5 cap screw and 12mm OD flat washer is snugged down in this hole, the stator plate can then be rotated until it contacts the edge of the washer. The 2K-2stator plate bolts should then be just off center in the slots. This works out well on the 250 and I think the timing for the 300 is the same.,,,

old fashioned method,no 1 pistonTDC remove rocker cover ,no 4 cyl valves on the rock and no 1 cyl open then look for some sort of landmark as i honestly cant remember where the marks should be.zetec the marks are on the back of the twin cams the grooves have to be horizontal with the rear caps remove the rocker cover and you will see it

there should be an acid mark (black mark) on gear, and yes cylinder #1 top dead center ps. make sure to disconnect distributor so it dont fire

Think you have to put a flat bar across the back of the cam shafts same as the old ZETEC ford motors. Failing that are the vernier pullies marked with eithr O T or do they have a - or a . that line up with a position on the end of the cylinder head.

From what I see in my manual,

1.There is a Timing Pointer on the back of the engine. There is a White mark on the flywheel. The white mark must line up with the timing pointer, for Number 1 piston to be at Top Dead Center.

2.Facing the engine, looking at the camshaft sprocket. The sprocket has spokes. On one of those spokes is the word, "UP" in raised letters, or there is a small Dot. As you can see here, the spoke with the word UP goes -> Up.
(Same thing of course if it is a Dot, instead of UP)

On the back of the camshaft gear, (Sprocket), are marks. On the edges of the camshaft gear. These line up with the top edge of the cylinder head. The surface of the cylinder head, where the valve cover bolts down to.

If I understanding right, you set the timing on your mazda. you may have set timing on the exhaust stroke. Rotate the crankshaft again with the belts off and realign the timing marks. You need the number 1 cylinder top dead center on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke. Also take off distributor cap and make sure rotor is pointing toward number 1 cylinder spark plug wire when at top dead center. Hope this is what you were asking.

I changed my contact point of cb100 but it lack speed and the spark plug is becoming black so i dont know how to adjust the air screwcorrectly i need a help please i timed the rotor mark (t)to its timing...


The timing mark T is for top dead centre and used to check the tappets on the compression stroke but the timing must be set to the mark F otherwise it will not develop full power. The air screw is typically is to seat it softly then one and a quarter turns out but that doesnt usually affect full power.

89 mitsubishi montero set timing marks on compression stroke and rotor button still wont start


I just did it, the distributor is two teeth back under #2 on the distributor cap!

I do not know why I just know it is, and I verified it at a local junk yard on two Montero's .

The three timing mark's must all match at their marks at the same time, if you have the car together then the white mark on your harmonic balancer should be at the mark on your timing cover at the bottom area of your engine

first you need a timing lite second when you start it you hold the timing lite at the crank there are degree marks near the crank you should clean the crank and there is a mark on it remark it with white chaulk thats how you set timing

Yes i can tell you how to set your Timing Marks.

Your Top Gear the Cam Shaft Sprocket you want the timing Mark you'll want it to be Pointing Down .it won't be completly straight Down but Very close to it.

You'll want your Lower Sprocket (Crank Shaft) Point Upward .Until both Cam And Crank Shaft Marks Ar Directly in Line with the Other.

As Long s you Have those 2-Marks Meeting Straight Across from each Other,You will be Set t Top Dead Center.

Meaning the your number 1- Piston Should be up and on the Compression Stroke, Not on the Power Stroke but Compression.

Either Way Sir if you got em Lined up like I was talking About you'll be Fine.

This will get your Timing Gears Lined up Properly,.

Do u know the firing order for a 89 suzuki


89 Katana uses two coils, one fires cylinders 1 and 4 together and the other fires 2 and 3 together. It's a waste spark system. So your firing order is either one coil or the other every revolution.

I have just rebuilt the engine on my 95 isuzu rodeo and when i set the timing marks according to facotry specs it will not start and sounds like the valves are open when the pistons reach the top of the...


You said you did to specs but if that was the case the valves would not be open at tdc.
triple check your timing(get a light if nessisary)
check that you dont have the plug wires mixed up
Note:
Izuzu engines are very picky and if the marks are not correct after turning over two rotations as stated in the book it will not run.
(im also taking that this is the v6SOHC engine)

Need help setting the timing


The main timing mark on the pulley usually runs all the way across it. Connect timing light to #1 plug wire...You don"t need to know when on compression stroke! If you need to know for another reason, remove the valve cover and watch rockers on #1 cylinder. Compression stroke happens right after #1 intake valve closes. (both rockers "at rest" at top of stroke.)

Yes, there are two timing marks, one on the crank gear, and one on the cam gear. The crank gear mark needs to be at the top, and the cam gear mark needs to be at the bottom (lined up w. one another).

set the timing marks on the crankshaft and the cam marks head to head the marks should be with the cylinder number 1 an tdc top dead center on the compression stroke then adjust the cam so the marks are aligned remember the number 1 piston has to be @ tdc and the crank and cam marks are lined up ok bye for now good luck with it
