1996 Chevy Astro V6 67K wont start when cold, needs engine starter fluid, ok when warmed up. Runs smooth. What is wrong?

I would say that the choke sensor (or whatever it is called) went bad & isn't telling the computer that it's cold & requires more fuel. Instead of starter fluid, did you try to push the foot feed 1 or 2 times?

89 Ford E350 Diesel - two problems 1) no power to instrument cluster, 2) diesel will not fire off without starter fluid...but the glow plug solenoid does click and wait light goes off

You should never use starter fluid when the glow plugs are hooked up. It can cause severe engine damage. You probably need to replace all the glow plugs and the glow plug controller.

Saw won't start without starting fluid.

Sounds like you have a compression problem. Starting fluid will fire at a much lower compression than a gas/oil mix so that's why it will start with it. When the motor is running you get a little more compression because the piston is coming up so fast. You should check the condition of your cylinder wall and piston & ring. If they are damaged at all you loose compression which directly affects starting and running power.

When my 81 Suzuki gets hot ( after long periods at idle, or on very hot days). The starter won't turn the motor over fast enough to start. The battery is good and the bike runs well after starting at any...

It could be a few different things - First I would suspect the brushes and armature in the starter since it does turn over and slowly when warm. You might be able to do a load test - that is, determine the amps required to start warm as opposed to cold. It should be fairly easy to inspect the brushes and armature of the starter and replace said components, unless you don't want to mess with it you could replace the starter. As for the low miles on the bike - it is unusual but not uncommon for a starter to go out being an electrical component and not just a mechanical, age has a lot to do with its life span as well as moisture and storage conditions.
Hope this helps!!

1994 volkwagen golf, only starts when starter fluid sprayed into air intake. After starts runs fine. after warmed up, still doesn't start without fluid

Is this a diesel? If so it could be fuel filters because that is classic signs of a fuel filter needing changed.

I have a 1982 XJ750, and wont start. Once started runs well.

try to get a warmer spark plug and you may find that it will start better . the Yamaha have been hard to start and the only way to really start them up in winter or colder weather is to replace the plug by a warmer one . Do not go too hot as you may burn a hole in the pistons .
