Question about 1980 Yamaha XJ 650
Some times it will start and others it won't. When I can get it started it will rev really high (5-6000). Any idea?
Hi, Jared and the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted or pinched.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
3. Intake system air leak.
4. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
5. Broken throttle return spring.
6. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
7. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, VSS sensors or wiring/connector

your needle valve in the carb will probly have a little stone in and it is allowing to much fuel to go into the carb causing it to overflow

its either fuel or air, check the air box under the seat, clean the filter, then check the fuel filter. If this doesnt work I would say you have dirt in your carb main jet.
