Turn key get nothing jump starter and sylenoid just spins

i cant dope out that symptoms.

does it crank or not. be clear there.

no car starts (but my 6sp) if it dont crank.

on A/T cars cranking is a first thing. so does it.?

Solenoids do not spin, the stroke only , it a linear motion.

the Sol. moves the pinion and the main contactor switch only.

my guess is the Starter spins and the crank don\'t spin,

you hear the starter motor spin up, it sings. like bird.

that means the starter /solenoid are bad. (crude)

if the battery is good and or jumper starting off a running car.

It can just be a dirty starter pinion, clean it , repeat.

fixed many for this. i have.

battery cable lugs clean, and good. no green rust.

bad cable usually just make a loud THUNK sound. no spin.

Good battery, key will not engage starter, jumping starter will not engage drive

jumping across the solenoid will spin the starter but will not engage the pinion in the ring gear. Have a load test done on the battery as I suspect that there is a bad cell and you are not getting a full charge. If the battery is faulty then there is always enough power to turn on dash lights but nothing left to run the high current solenoid and starter.

2004 arctic cat 500 4x4 starter turns doesnt engage starts with pull cord

The starter has to throw it's gear out using centrifugal force. The speed of the starter has to be enough to overcome the spring inside. It is either a little seized and needs to be rebuilt and greased up, or the battery isn't powered up enough to get the right speed to engage properly. In that case clean the battery posts and clamps well, then charge or replace the battery. To know if the battery is bad wait till it is charged... if it still doesn't engage try again with booster cables from your car etc. and see if it suddenly works fine.

I just jump started a buddies car and now my car wont start 2006 mazda 3 the starter is spinning but not engaing the engine to turn over

Not because of jumping another car though. Starters have a bendix that engages the flywheel and if the starter is spinning, the solenoid is not engaging the bendix. Check and replace.

My starter spins but but doesn't engage the fly wheel. Solenoid or starter?

starter, take out and try across battery and it should whirr and jump out as if connecting with flywheel, if no spray the whole starter with WD40 inside and leave overnight. worked for me.

2004 marquis. the starter seems to by spinning without engaging when I turn the ignition. Can you still short the posts on the starter solenoid to get the car started>

Look under the car at the Starter. If you just have the main heavy gauge cable going to the Starter, the answer is no. The Starter is spinning and the Bendix drive is bad.

If you have Solenoid wires in addition to the heavy cable at the Starter, you can try to jump the Solenoid under the car at the Starter. If the secondary wires (small) are not providing power to the magnet that throws out the Bendix, jumping power to the magnet will make the Bendix work. You do not want the Bendix to stay engaged or you will damage the Flywheel or burn up the Starter. You might as well check the Secondary (small) wires for corrosion because the problem is outside the Starter.

If the contacts for the magnet inside the Starter are burnt, jumping the Terminals will do nothing.
