I have a 1986 ford f350 that runs great bottom end but spits an sputters mid to top speed. ANy ideas?

hello you can check the slavecylinder for leakage there is a reservoir up near your mastercylinder black mounted on firewall has a plastic line take the cap of fill with fluid if low try again if no go check fluid level in transfer case with bent coat hanger or wire should register at leat 2-3 inches down if all is good sync gears out of sync goodluck

Do you often run your gas tank to near empty?
If so.......
This sounds like it may be as simple as cleaning the water or gunk out of the gas tank which is what I always do 1st because it's easy and inexpensive.
If your fuel is contaminated with gunk, grime, water and/or bottom junk like rust this will cause stalling and rough riding!
Try spraying a can of starter fluid in the air intake and see if it runs! If it does, it's most likely bad fuel or clogged injectors so....
Fill the tank with High Test, Add some dry gas and a good fuel system cleaner or 2 or 3 and this should dissolve all the gunk and clean the injectors! Read & follow the cans' instruction carefully.
If this cures the problem never let your gas tank get below 1/4 and especially never run it to empty as this is when the gunk and/or water will enter the system!

I have a 91 ranger. There are two band adjustments on the transmission that is supposed to be adjusted every 60K miles. There are two adjustments, one for overdrive and the other for everything else. The overdrive adjustment is closest to the front of the transmission and the other is back behind it closer to the shift lever on the driver side. The locking nut is a 19" and there is a tool you get for the other nut. I have found a 3/8th (I believe) 12 point socket will fit on the square. You loosen the lock nut, then you tighten the band adjustment bolt to 10 foot pounds. Then you back the bolt off 2 full turns, then hold it in place while re-tightening your lock nut. I had to adjust my bolt in 1/4 turns at a time after test driving to get the transmission to shift just right.

Could possibly be the temperature sending unit. They tell the computer what the coolant temp is. When the engine is cold, it will richen the air fuel mixture. IT could possibly not be sending the right signal to the computer, thus causing it to run crappy.

Check the EGR make sure it is not stuck open. Then Check the timing and check for dirt and grease and moister in and on the Distributor cap and on the rotor check spark gap and clean plugs with fine sandpaper.
