Hi Tavi904, if you have a CKP sensor it needs compression to send correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially "GROUND" cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm.

By "loud" I assume you are talking about the "clunk" when you engage a lower (or higher) gear. Does the bike try to creep forward when you are in gear with the clutch disengaged? If it does, then you need to adjust the clutch cable. If you have one of those bogus braided cables, then the adjustment is something you much watch very closely. Forgive me, but if you are shifting down at to high a speed, you are going to hear some loud clunks as the gears are turning at very different speeds. The trans on your bike is a very well designed item and noise when shifting most likely does not mean problems.

I bet you have 12v at the battery and less at the other end of the neg cable.
I had the same problem.

harley recomends that you use their oil but i would be carefull because it is a cynthetic now if you were using regular oil what that will do is clean all the old build up out of the motor this can be bad because after time there are pin hole leaks that occure but the build up stops it from leaking but if you use cynthetic you cant go back to regular oil it will gum up on you and ruen your motor so you got to find out what has been put in it. but use a 10-30

Your Twin Cam plug should be a 6R 12 Harley Plug. Often times the back fire is just the nature of the beast depending on what type of pipes you are running. Harleys do run lean, its an EPA thing thtas why they choke them down from the factory. Since you have a carb you could have an intake leak around the Intake. Also Under the carb is an adjustment screw. Harley plugs it up so people don't play with it. You have to just drill out the plug this will set your air fuel. Whenever I take a carb off I drill out that plug. Heat your bike up operating temp and ear tune that screw. Only other way is with air fuel analizer or a dyno. good luck.also that backfire is caused by fuel hitting your exhaust when you let off just to let you know.

Hi, Sylvain before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. Faulty ignition relay.
14. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
15. Check for engine trouble codes.

2003 Harley Davidson 883 Hugger won't start

1988 883 has spark and gas but wont run


Good gas or old gas? Gas lying around in high temperatures goes off. If compression is good and timing is correct then engine must start. Has the bike being laid up for a lenght of time? Did it just stop? Has someone been at the carb?

1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to Ignition
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.

2010 iron 883 accessories and lights will come on when key is turned on. fuel injection will not hum.

I HAVE A 05 XL 883C SPORSTER CHROME OIL DIP STICK POPS UP AND OIL SEEPS OUT AND RUNS DOWN OIL TANK AND


Hi Jannis, a dipstick with a good ruuber seal will need some force in removal and installation. If yours goes in and out easy replace it. Also make sure your engine breather system isn't restricted. Good luck
