Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

86 sporster keeps stalling while riding, will start back up, but will stall again shortly, has new fuel filter, new plugs, all vacuum lines good, getting good gas flow, runs super about 5-6 miles then

Keep thinking its either module or ignition pick up coil.

Have you checked your carbs air fuel mixture screw?

I just had carb redone and jetted at a Harley repair shop, because I cleaned carb and it was still doing same thing, so I assume they adjusted the air fuel mixture, and it drove fine when I picked it up, I actually rode it few times before it started this stalling out on me

The bike does not spit or sputter when it stalls, it just shuts down

Bike stalls at idle and under load when hot or cold?

Hi Todd, sure sounds like a fuel problem, since i dont if you have carb or fuel injection lets start with your carb. remove the float bowl and see if there is water in the bottom. if so remove fuel tank drain it completely clean the filter then air blow it dry also mahe sure the line from petcock to carb is not pinched or bent to restrict flow then check your vacuum line to the petcock is attached at both ends and is not cracked max vacuum is necessary to pull the diaphram in the petcock to allow fuel to flow, disasemble petcock and check rubber diaphram for cracks or pinholes. reasemble petcock and check with vacuum gauge to make sure its holding vacuum. put 1 gallon of uncontaminated fuel back in tank and take it for a ride.
if you have fuel injection, check fuel pump pressure sorry i dont have specs on that but call your local service dept and they can hook you up. clean fuel filter then blow dry tank and proceed as above. if none of this helps get back to me and we can try some electrical trouble shooting good luck

86 sporty 1200. Stalls out while riding, but will start back up, then shortly after stalls again.

Sounds more like you are not getting gas. Check the carb. Check the throttle line that it is adjusted correctly and you can see it moving the lever on the carb.

maybe you gas filter is plugged. Remove the gas line from the carb and open the pet cock. the gas should flow.

signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator. the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start usually in the mornings. many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. black soot on plugs, blake smoke from tailpipe, running rough, stalling. you could have residue in fuel tank and need to change fuel filter again. have a very good day !!

John deere 2210 keeps stalling/

If you have already replaced the fuel filter then you need to check the fuel tank to see if it has debris in it that is restricting the fuel to the filter. If you are not having a fuel delivery problem then you may need to replace the rubber fuel lines, they may be sucking in air,you will not see this as a fuel leak because of the vacuum on the lines but air in the return lines will cause problems and also air in the delivery side of the fuel will also give you grief.
