Normal break in period is 500-1000 miles. They change oil and oil filter. On my motorcycle I change the oil no matter what every 3000 miles.

Hi, Graham for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Triumph, despair not, for a mere $10 you can download another one. Go to a triumph shop and ask the question or look below the engine near the middle stand there should be a large No. 17 bolt plug and don't forget to change the oil filter. Good luck

Motor seems noisy at 15K miles. Should the valves be adjusted? What are the intervals between valve adjustments on this model?

Yes valve adjustment is a requirement. You need a good repair manual, unfortunately I do not have one for your model, but your local Triumph Dealership should be able to answer your question about the intervals. I thought it was only done when required, but I am not an expert on Triumphs.

Triumph America 2007 battery and ignition problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the click is significant as it indicates that the starter relay is engaging (hence the click) but the contacts are not switching (hence no starter spin). To confirm, temporarily jumper the 2 big terminals of the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, follow the cable from the battery's + terminal.

Offhand, no headlight would require tracing where the headlight +12 is missing using a testlight rather than a voltmeter.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

My 2006 Triumph America has a problem starting up. The engine starts but cuts out after approx 6-7 secs and will not then re-start for an hour or so. I have checked the battery and fuel flow and found no...

I have a friend that has a 2006 Triumph America and the same thing happened to him. Started running on one cylinder and then just refused to start. I did a check on everything and found that the CDI went bad. This is mounted under the fuel tank along the back bone and is about 3 inch square box.
They mounted them with a type of plastic rivet and would vibrated on the mount and cause something inside to break. When you replace it mount it solid and use a piece of rubber between the mounting plate and the CDI.

Looked at an america with very low miles. Great bike but exhaust pipes at head are very blue - more so that i have seen on others with much higher miles. Might this be an indication of overheating at some...

Triumph bikes are well made but the exhaust always suffer and turn blue due to heat .
Now this is common on lots of bikes but the good old twins have a high compression output and i would , just for your own sake , get the compression level out of the specifications and put a gauge on the bike . this is the safest way of telling if the rings are weak and done a lot of miles .
the color of the exhaust may be only telling that the metal thickness may not be adequate or poor chrome workmanship due to chinese metal .

Backfires

My '06 Bonneville America also often emits a single, very quiet backfire right after I turn it off. It doesn't do it every time, but approximately half the time. As with yours it runs beautifully and, therefore, hasn't been of concern.
