SOURCE: P0320 & P1391 OBD codes displayed.

P 0320 = No Crank Reference Signal to PCM. No Crank (shaft position) reference signal detected during engine cranking (starting).
P 1391 =Intermittent Loss of either Camshaft Position Sensor or Crankshaft Position Sensor.
Hav you attemtped the "3-Key-Ons" method to see these codes on your digital Odometer (assuming you have one) Turn the Key from Off to On (not start) three (3) times. On the third (3rd) time leave the Key in the "On" position (not start). Look at your Dogotal Odometer (if so equipped). The Codes, one at a time should appear. The Last Code will be "P donE".
If te engine is performing without problems: disconnect the negative side of the Battery and wait at least 5 to 30 minutes. Reconnect the Battery. Re-preform the 3-Key-On's and see if and Codes are now showing.
If you start having Start or Running problems becoming more and more frequent: consider replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor. If this sensor "fails" you may not get any fire to anything, as this is the signal that is necessary for the PCM to initiate the Firing Sequence. The PCM will not send a signal to even the Ignition Coil to begin.

Changed engine but now wont start and gives P1391 P0340 P0320

the codes as related to the oxygen snsors . now here is what I would do . replace all four or how many you have . it will be guaranteed that you fix the problem . oh don't forget to remove the codes after repairs are done. you also need a special socket to remove the sensor.

remember the code does not mean the part is bad just where to look for bad wires, connectors and to test for bad parts.

I have a diagnostic code 340 and 320 on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. What might the problem be?

DTC P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Symptoms can include:
  • Hard starting or no start
  • Rough running / misfiring
  • Loss of engine power
Causes:A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

Possible Solutions:With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

DTC P0320 also have with this wrong.
