Hi ...... The reason it's on a Q plate is that the DVLA are unsure of manufacturing year, it's been put together later out of 'spare' parts or it's been an insurance write-off that has been repaired with a high percentage of replacement parts or a different frame. You'll be able to find out from YAMAHA the age of the frame & engine with the V5 showing you only the date of registration. Have you tried the VJMC ? Give them a call with the V5 in front of you, so you can answer any questions.

Hi,,,the major things,as it has sat for so long will be,,gummed up carbs,,hardened crank seals and rust in the tank..

You can jump start it but i dont reccomend it.

Price will vary with condition,,both external and engine wise.

I wana to know the date of manufactur for my Yamaha Motorcycle.

their will be an identification plate, attached to the main frame of your bike, just below the handle bars. To see it easily, turn the bars full lock to either direction. The plate will give information on frame number, manufacturers batch number, and the build date.

Can i fit the top end of 1977 rd400 on the bottom end of a 1974 rd250?

I know the rd250 and rd350 interchange. The rd400 cylinder base gaskets are the same as the 250 and 350. You just need to know if they have the same crankshaft stroke is the same and the if the piston pins are the same diameter(they are also a different pn#).

I have a 2004 yz250f. I bought it used after not riding for many years. I had to adjust the clutch so tight because the bike would jump or stall when I put it in gear. The clutch is obviously worn, whats...

First of all if the bike sat for years the plates may just be stuck together. Disassemble and inspect the clutch. For racing some clutches are all aluminum plates. To last longer two or three plates may be metal. Some people put in all metal because they do not race and that set up will last longer. Aluminum plates are soft for better clutch grab. Aluminum plates tend to wear out faster than the the friction plates. So when you inspect the plates figure on replacing all the aluminum's , your friction's and metal's are probably fine.

The bike was manufactured in October '09 to be sold as the 2010 model year. Auto dealers do the same. You can buy a 2011 Ford Mustang in September of this year, 2010.

Change oil and, filters regularly; lube the throttle cables and, all moving parts drain the fuel tank and, replace the fuel filter every year, or; when needed. never leave fuel in the bike when you store it without using "stabil" only check your ignition with a timing light get a maintenance schedule from the bike's manufacturer and, follow it.

Having a problem with points type ignition on a 1979 yamaha rd 350. I'm not sure how to set the point gap and timing or, what the point gap specs are. I also oopsed and dropped the insulation type washer,...

The base setting for the point gap is 15 thousandths. Set the left cylinder to .015 and check the timing with a timing light. Adjust the timing for the left side by moving the base plate up or down. Now change the timing light to the right cylinder and check the timing for the left cylinder. Adjust the timing for the left side by changing the points gap if the left base plate can not be adjusted, ( I can't remember if the left plate adjusts or not ). The wires should not be grounded. Check to see if the timing advances as it should when the revs increase. Below is a photo from an 1979 RD400 owners manual. Yours looks the same.

f9ff258.png Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock. It looks like they have points for a 1975 RD350 and they should work on your bike.

Yamaha can tell from the VIN what exact year and model your bike is. Check with them as I don't think the 350 was made in 1979.

Find the model production year, usually found on the same plate as the vin. Then add one year. For instance if the bike was produced in 2001, then its a 2002 model.
