I have just recently bought a Yamaha XT 125 R (Enduro version) it's a 2010 model, so quite new.. I bought this bike yesterday, from a private seller, after riding the bike for a couple of hours the bike lost all power, it cut out and the lights and dashboard lights went out, it then would not start again, electric start or kick start wouldnt work, now would bump starting it.. It was flashing Endr and Ntrd on the dashboard screen i have read a few resolutions about the mode switch, and also disconnecting the speedo and resetting it, and disconnecting the battery terminals. I phoned a near by Yamaha Dealer and he stated it's lack of power and the battery is not charging correctly when the bike is being ridden, taking this into consideration an alarm is fitted to this bike, under the seat and is one where when touched 'this vehicle is alarmed, please step away' is played.. I have a feeling it could be this draining the battery as it is the only off the market item on this vehicle, any input, opinions, thoughts, or past expieriences are welcome and may save me the cost of taking it to a garage, thank you in advance.

SOURCE: Electrical problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try recharging the battery again. Remove the connector to the voltage regulator. Start/run the bike. If it lasts more than "3-5 minutes" then you have just confirmed a defective regulator. The voltage regulator would look something like below image.

SOURCE: electric start dont work

You probably have a bad switch

First look to se if there are any fuses
also see if horn works

FIX for determining if starter works

to find out take jumper cables and put the red cable on the plus side of the battery and the black on the minus side of battery(ground)

Put the black lead(ground ) on the frame of the bike near starter and touch the red to the starter lead( you may have to peel back rubber boot over starter nut

when you touch the starter nut it will spark and should spin over

if it does then you need to remove the screw assembly that holds the starter button and remove and clean it out with electronic cleaner (you may have to replace it if so go to honda shop and order new one

Good luck

SOURCE: after a 2 hour ride

Might have 12.67 volts, but not enough amps to crank engine or light the lights properly. Try putting a charger on the battery, bring it to a full charge. Next, put a load tester on the battery to see if battery is weak or dead cell. If battery checks good, check the charging system. With engine running at idle, put volt meter on battery-read volts, then rev engine to high idle. Volts should climb higher than idle reading.

ENDR Ntrd appears on the screen and even if the bike is off

Turn the ignition on and hold the pass light button in when it says either endr or ntrd depending on whether your bike is an enduro (off road) or the other one (don't know the name).

Yamaha xt 125 battery problem

RC = ReCharge, either the battery is bad, or drain, but both can be caused by a continuous short circuit on the bike's coil and the body / battery.

XT 125 oil problem

Hi Pete!
I used to have a Xt 500 and loved it to bits, the oil filler then and presumably now is on the right side of the engine by the kick start (If you have one) it is a large black plastic screw topped item which will unscrew (Anticlockwise) to reveal a long shaft (Dip stick).
There you go!
Remember to keep bike upright to check level?
