Intake leak? When bike is running, spray intake area with wd40. If bike starts to smoke, you found it. Examine intake hose and fastenings for leaks.

It sounds like you need a new needle in the carb. The fuel level is regulated by the float which opens and closes the needle in it's seat. If the needle is worn or damaged, it will not completely close. If you just inherited the bike, I would believe that the bike has been sitting up for a while. I'd have a competent mechanic remove the carb and go through it. Clean it out on the inside and put a new needle valve in it. This job is a bit too complicated for me to recommend that an amateur can do it. If you wish to try, I'd purchase a service manual. It's too much for me to type here on this forum. Sorry. Good news is the needle valve only costs about $25.

1998 honda aero VT1100C3. Fuel leaking fromthe bottoom of the bike. There is a cylinder shaped object right under the bike that fuel if coming from or around it. What could that be?

Where exactly is it coming from. Easiest way is to clean up the bottom and try and follow it up. The carbs have hoses that gas will leak from if there is a problem with them. A stuck float valve will cause your overflow tube to drip gas when the petcock is on. Also, if your gas tank is overfilled or on a hot day, sometimes gas can come out of that overflow tube as well. Figure out exactly where it's coming from first. Or take a picture, that will help. If it is the carb overflow tube give the carbs a good whack with a plastic handled screwdriver (a big one) and that may release the stuck valve and allow it to do its job, which is closing off fuel. Other than that, the only other cylindrical thing I can think of would be the brake master cylinder, which would also drip a clear-ish liquid, that resembles gas, but doesn't evaporate at all. It is essentially hydraulic fluid. I hope this helps.

Trouble starting but once started runs good

How long since your bike was properly serviced? Service includes oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, valve clearance check, fuel filter etc. Check for cracked PCV vent hoses around throttle bodies. checking of throttle body sync. These bikes usually run very well when properly maintained. Trouble starting when cold could be caused by many different things.

Good Luck!

My 1974 kawasaki ke 125 is leaking gas out the bottom of the engine. what is wrong with it?

Several things could be wrong. First, the fuel petcock (valve) at the bottom of the gas tank should be turned off when the bike is not being ridden. Also, it is possible the valve may not be fully shutting off the gas. This can allow the carb to overflow and leak gas. A stuck open or punctured float in the carb bowl can cause overflow. The float should be light as a feather and have nothing inside it but air. Is the carb securely mounted?

Check for cracked fuel hose or bad connections at the tank and carb. Is the fuel valve body leaking gas where it mounts to the tank? Heck, with the bike being 36 years old the tank may be leaking at a weld or due to rust through. I wish I could work on your bike. The older bikes are more fun to work on than the newer bikes. Post a reply and let me know what you find.

Hope someone can help.. bought a used think 07/08

I am not certain exactly what bike you have so consider the diagram below as generic. Chances are the float needle is sticking open a bit. A bit of trash may be stopping it from closing fully. The overflow hose is where any "excess" gas is dumped. This hose vents to the open air. Be sure to turn off the gas valve (petcock) at the bottom side of the tank when bike is not in use. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Honda 750 shadow gas leak

It is a vent / overflow hose. It drains to the atmosphere / street. If gas is coming out and isn't stopping then a float is stuck.

Turn off the gas and drain the offending carb(s). Next, turn the gas back on and sharply tap the float bowl with the plastic handle of a screwdriver as the fuel bowl refills. The goal here is to vibrate the float to free it up. If doing this process a couple of times does not free the float I would remove the carb(s) and look for any misalignment of float pin, needle or adjusting tang.

Now re-clean with a spray carb cleaner. Clean the air filter then re-mount carb(s). Next, Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a trap bowl ). INSTALL AN IN-LINE FUEL FILTER..
