Hi, Jan and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
11. Check for engine trouble codes.

make sure your fuses are ok and youve got power if ok check the blinker sender unit its usually round and silver with 2 or 3 wire going to it. usually under the dash but could be in the engine bay

I just replaced the piston in a 74 yamaha 175 mx. It had spark before the rebuild, but not now What tests can I perform? Thanks, Randy.

First, get a new spark plug. Next remove the gas tank and check the small black wire running out of the coil. Is it plugged into a wire connector?. Check the spark plug wire and plug cap also. All connections should be snug and clean. Is the handlebar kill switch in the off position? Check the key switch wire connections. Check the neutral switch wire. I don't remember if the side stand had a kill switch or not. Check it out. I think it didn't have a switch. Check the battery connections. Check the wire coming from the points. Good connection? Run a fingernail file between the contact points to remove any pitting and foreign matter. Set the points to a .015 opening when the points are at full open position on the cam. These things are in the sequence I would check. Please rate my answer. tombones49_217.gif
