SOURCE: How to wire a tach on 05 heritage softail

Locate & route Black lead to ground / 2004-later softail: On the frame strap under the seat directly in front of the battery.

Locate & route the pink lead to Signal / For 2004 & later FXST/C/I The #3 cavity in the connector {39b} on the back of the speedometer. The socket terminal on the signal (pk) lead fits the #3 cavity.

Locate & route the Orange and white lead to power / Ummm.. it's saying for 2004 and later to adapt to the fuse block For earlier [ For 1996 to 2003 softail: locate the power lead (o/w) in the tail lamp pin connector {7a} under the seat behind the right rear corner of he battery.] "here you are looking to run it to a fused line, not directly to power/battery" I hope this helped.

you are wanting a wiring harness

your best bet aside from ordering one is to buy a service manual from or local husqvarna dealer and use the wiring schematic to build your own race harness........don't forget the kill switch.

If you have continuity from the coil to the ignitor, the problem lies within the ignitor. The coils function by having a constant battery voltage on the red/black wire (you'll notice that ALL the coils have a red/black wire) - the primary windings in the coil charge up, until the ignitor "grounds" the colored wire (grey and white in the front, orange and yellow in the rear). As the voltage in the primary winding drops, it creates a strong magnetic field - the magnet (laminated iron) in the center of the coil charges the secondary windings, and the very high voltages generated fire the plug. You've already determined that the voltage on the orange wire is higher than the voltage on the yellow wire; that could only be because the orange wire is not being "grounded" on a recurring basis by the ignitor. (You have to remember that the meter you're testing the leads with cannot react to changes in voltage nearly as quickly as they happen; to really "see" what's happening at the coil, you'd need to use an oscilloscope).

Testimonial: "Thanks, the problem was the ignitor. I replaced it with a new one, and the bike works fine. Thanks again."

Wr450 headlight keeps blowing

Hi, Nathan if your headlight is not working, only one beam works, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

Changed fuel filter and plugs, still sputtering.cant get up a hill

Hello! Two causes for your fault may both be present...I'm ranking them by probability...#1...Throttle Body Inlet is fouled with carbon deposits..Buy a can of spray throttle body cleaner...Pull air inlet tube...Spray and clean inside with a toothbrush...Test drive the Sportage...If problem still exist...Perform step #2...Do you have a multimeter (better if digital) and a wee bit of experience using it? ...The culprit may be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)...It is bolted to the throttle body and has a three wire connector...Wire colors are...Yellow/Green (+5 volts)...Green/Yellow (sensor ground)...And Yellow/Black (output)....Using two safety pins push the point into the rear of the in-place connector into the Yellow/Black and the other into the Green/Yellow...Set meter to read 5 volts...Clip the (+) meter probe to the Yellow/Black...And the (-) probe to the Green/Yellow...Start the engine...At idle reading should be less than 1 volt (.85)...Throttle up slowly as you watch the meter ...Voltage must rise smoothly without jumping...At full throttle reading must be 4 volts...If not ...TPS is defective...Send results...Guru...Saailer

If you have access to the 8 pin plug and have a voltage tester check each pin with the ignition on. Once you have found the pins that have voltage see which one goes off w/ign. and which one does not. The one that goes off cut it about 2-3 inches from the plug and cap the end of the wire that was going to the plug. With the wire from the plug remove 1/2 inch or so of the insullation and find the pin that did not go off w/ign and skin that wire back about 1/2 inch and apply the other wire and tape up. this should do it.
