Question about Motorcycles
I recently purchased a Honda EX1000 generator off Craigslist. The generator wouldn't start although the guy assured me it ran fine a year earlier and had been sitting. I checked it out a little and guessed it was just a gummed up carb and offered him $100. I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong. Anyway, I took it home, pulled the carb and it was really bad. Rebuilt it and tried starting it. Little sputters but won't start, even tried some quick start and same thing. It almost seems as if it is backfiring out the carb. I'm wondering if I have a stuck valve. Also how do I disconect or jumper the low oil switch in case that is the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sound like you've done things in the correct order, tecumseh's are notorious for carb problems if you let as sit in them. Backfiring is timing related (flywheel key) or valve problems. I would take a closer look at the exhaust valve I don't believe it is closing all the way.

let me tell you how i check to see if the float and needle valve is working properley in a carb. take the carb off git a hand pump off a out board motor. hose and all take the ends off put the suction end in a can of gas and the outlit end to the gas inlit on the carb. squeez liteley on the bulb that should let you no if the carb is leaking some ware. if not then you no for sure that the problem is some were else.goodluck davidbaxley.

Try pulling out the choke a little, if it stops backfiring the mixture is too lean, check the intake
pipes at the cyl head and also the plastic runners to the carb for leaks.
