Hi I have a Suzuki vl1500 lc is overcharging. cheack coil, regulator and rec but not the problem. its a brand new battery and bike is charging over 16.1 and up..please help thanks

Double check your battery to be sure that you bought the right kind. Also double check the reg/rec. This device is what is primarily responsible for the charging being correct. Overcharging should fall squarely on the shoulders of the reg/rec. if you didn't already replace it with a brand new part I'd still think that was the problem. If you did replace it, I suppose it is possible for your alternator to be broken and producing an absurd amount of energy, but I doubt it.

I have a kawasaki zx9r 1998 and i have two problems overcharge battery and melt coil

Thats very high. The voltage should be around 13 or 14.5 volts. Sounds like the voltage regulator you put on was bad too.

Battery over heated. bike shut down.

Voltage regulator failure, possibly overcharged the battery. Did any lights burn out? Is the battery water low or gone in any cells? Voltage regulator failure usually means no charging but it can overcharge to. Take battery to the shop for load test etc.

How old is your battery? Has it been overcharged?
The battery voltage at rest should read 12.8Volts when fully charged. If, when it is charging from the engine, the voltage exceeds 14.8Volts, suspect an overcharge as that will damage the battery and reduce its output power. I can't see there are any shorting problems as you would notice the hot wire smell.
I remember my old Honda 4 had a battery overcharging problem, many years ago, causing the side lamps to flatten the battery within half an hour. There was no regulator fitted to that old model, all it had was a large Zener Diode to stop the voltage going too high and mine was open circuit, boiling the battery!
Hope that helps.

Battery overcharging

Check your regulator/rectifier output is it according to standard.
Is your battery in prime condition as a minimal caopacity battery retention will make the alternator/charger produce a higher output level to quickly charge the battery to optimal state.
Good enough?

Charging problem battery is overcharging

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, overcharging would indicate a faulty voltage regulator or more specifically, shorted.  A shorted condition would not adjust to the need/status of the battery but supply to the battery an always maximum charging current, hence the overcharging.

On most versions, the voltage regulator would be behind the cover below the battery.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Harley 03 Ultra overcharging, 16 volts

14v is not overcharging. 16v is pushing it. I'm with the regulator opinion, but I would also load test your battery. If the charging system thinks your battery is low it will try to compensate by putting out max voltage, putting additional strain on the regulator, which in turn overcharges the battery... creates a vicious cycle. Is the regulator in a spot where it gets quite warm? They have a tendency to overcharge when hot. If that is the case, try relocating it or directing more airflow over it.
