Question about Honda Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 2007 honda shadow, since my battery needed several jump starts over the last few months, I got a replacement battery form auto zone, this new battery is an equivalent not a honda battery, I must also mention that very recently during one of the jump starts, I may have accidentally sparked one of the terminals...I did however check for the fuses, and all of them seem intact...however after the new battery has been replaced, nada, no power to ignition, no power what so ever...don't know where to start

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

With the indulgence of DickCanFixIt...

Almost always, in instances such as you have described, the main 30Amps fuse of the 93 CB750 (F2P Retro) would have blown. The main fuse is located along with the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, follow the + cable from the battery terminal.

Additionally, once power has been restored, you may want to check the regulator and CDI as they are electronic and therefore prone to damage on reverse polarity.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?

• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.

Check wires on starter for looseness and also hook up charger to battery..Sometimes when you buy these batteries they might say they are fully charged but usually need to be charged for 6 hours before use...If battery is fully charged either bad connection at the battery(maybe broken terminal or missing wire that didnt get put back on) or theres a bad ground from battery to body or the hot wire from battery to starter is loose or corroded..Hope this helps you and have a great day!!

You need new regulator and new battery. The battery works as a filter as well.If it is in bad condition it does not filter anything and in high rpm the current is very high.

I think the starter works off of a one-way clutch.
Go over your wiring once again. Make sure all the switches are in their correct positions.
Be sure the battery was properly charged before installation.

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units If you needed a bigger battery then the autozone salesperson should have sold you the correct battery first time round.( try getting a refund on the first battery) Jump starting an efi vehicle incorrectly will do serious damage to the control module requiring a new ecu unit. Check what is staying on when you switch off including interior lights/ boot light

I have a 96 honda shadow ace. I had to clean the carbs all went well. I tried to start it but the battery was low. I charged it but the battery bike turned over slowly. I put some more water in the battery...

-The battery might not take and hold any charge at all. Take to auto zone to test for you.

Remember. Every car battery 's life is last only 5 years.

Good luck

Hi, Kwegger # 7 is jumping up and down waving a red flag screaming "PICK ME PICK ME" before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

I have a 2005 Honda VT 750 DC Shadow Spirit, and won't start up when cold and the battery dies/no mo juice after a couple of tryes, can I jump start it with a battery on a idleing car?

DO NOT EVER jump start with car, car battery hase too much power, you will blow your fuses and maybe even ecu if your bika hase it. Thry charging your battery when it's off the bike. But you should buy new one.
Usually battery for bikes last 3-4 year and need to be changed.

I have a 2007 Honda Shadow 750, will turn over but not start. Tried shooting starting fluid, and will run until starter fluid is gone. Has not been ridden much in last several months....

Have you put fresh fuel in it ?
also you may need to flush out your carbs as they may be sticking.
Make sure things like the choke is on, the fuel on.
Turn off lights etc.
Some bikes also have kill switches (yes we have all done this !) make sure thats not on.
Also that the side stand switch is not cutting out ignition.

2007 Honda Shadow Spirit VT1100c exhaust leak at cylinder head and it backfires

Hi, Ltbuerkle #8 looks good and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage check for spark leakage in the dark.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

To access the battery you will need to remove the seat which will expose the battery compartment top cover, remove the cover to access the battery.

New battery on new bike,it kills the batterys in 2 days

Either you have a dead short in your wireing or your battery is not charging fully. Use a volt meter your battery will have 12 volts start the bike and it should read 13 plus then take it up to 2000 rpm above idle anyway it should read 14 plus. If you dont have these numbers then you have a stator or regulator problem or both. You may be geting a slight charge when running but not enough to keep the battery peaked out.
