Question about 1998 Honda XR 400R

1 Answer

Not really a problem.

Getting a little older these days. Can my XR 400R be outfitted with an electric start. If so is it pricey?

Yes you can change your XR400 to electric start.
Just find a parted out 400EX 4wheeler.It may be easier to find a complete blowed motor and get everything you need at one time. But I did ship a complete bottom end to a guy in Italy and he did the conversion.

I have a suzuki RF 400r. The spark plugs keep getting busted randomly on all cylinders. It takes just days for them to get busted. Is the problem electrical or fuel related?

If this bike is in need of an engine rebuild, oil seeping past the rings will boost your compression dramaticly, blowing the porcelin out of the spark plug.

The bike was running fine. now it will not start at all. Does not seem to be getting any spark

Fouling a spark plug with unleaded fuel and wet fouling a spark plug with ethanol fuel is more common than you would think. Take out the old plug. Test for spark with a new plug. Then put in the new plug.

What oil goes in my 2001 xr400

It depends on the temperatures you run it in.Honda recommends SAE 10W-40 API : SF or SG.
In hot climates they work better with SAE 15W-50 semisynthetic.
I wouldn't recommend fully synthetic for every day's use.It is too thin and you while have to add some every 5-6 days of use.Usually fully synthetic oil is used in race.
