How do you cold start?

My motorcycle will not start in the mornings? However, after i get home from work it starts right up. I am a new rider and this is a previously owned bike, so any suggestions will help.

If everything is in good working order many newcomers to their bikes make a mistake when starting them cold they tend to open the throttle when the motor needs a richer mixture to run and start, now here is the secret lol full choke and do not touch the throttle do not open it when cold cranking the bike,once it starts then as it warms up ease off the choke then your good to go.

    Ha, luckily I knew about the choke. I found out it was the battery.

Try putting in new, stock spark plugs. Check and possibly replace the air filter. Charge the battery. Get the bike running then check the battery voltage at 2000 rpm. It should show 14volts or more. If not, get the charging system checked. Get a can of starting spray (for future problems).

Get the compression checked. Your bike is 21 years old and I will bet that the valves are needing to be reseated. Check the valve clearances with a cold engine and reset valve clearances as needed. Check the area where the head contacts th cylinder. Any mist of an oil stain? Tighten the head or replace the head gasket. If replacing the gasket, now is the time to have the shop lap re-seat the valves. Have them sync and balance the carbs as well. Your bike will now have its' manners back and show you the dedication it should.

you have a problem with the starter not turning the engine. so we probily not sending a signal to the starter.
you realy confused me when you started talking about gas and choke?
if the engine doesnt turn over none of this even matters.

these new bikes have many safety features .
you have a sensor for netural and you have a sensor for your kickstand and a sensor for your clutch
and all of these have to be workinf right for your engine to turn over.
so with your kickstand up and the bike in netural and the clutch lever pulled in
it should turn over and start.
when it doesnt you need to check your wiring to the switches one might have come loose.
or could be a bad switch.

Be sure there is a voltage regulator/rectifier in your system.
Its a little aluminium block with small cooling fins, and should be fixed with contact on the chassis.

You can take every regulator, even from a moped for a simple electric circuit.
You just have to know if your bike was a 6V or a 12V one

Otherwise, you can easily make a regulator by yourself, a diode bridge, and a 12V regulator from your local electronics shop.

SOURCE: Proper start-up service for a 1980 Suzuki GS550L motorcycle.

Shoot WD40 into each cylinder to get them wet.
Change gearbox oil and oil filter. Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. How bad is the rust inside the gas tank? I would consider a liquid tank liner if rusted. Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.

  • Lube chain or get a new chain (if needed)
  • Lube Throttle, clutch and front brake cables
  • Lube Speedometer cable
  • Grease the swingarm, axle and steering stem bearings.
  • Install a new battery
  • Clean, and balance the carbs. This will be the problem area. They will likely be gummed up pretty good. Be sure to install an in-line fuel filter before starting the bike.

Look around the accelerator cable for like a little twisty knob thing that controls the throttle and turn it up a little bit. Basically opens the cabs up and lets a lil more fuel in making the rpm a lil higher and should prevent it from stalling. As for the hard to start problem, Try usung the choke a bit and if that fails give it some gass(if the throttle has been opend and closes when off it may be flooded or try replacing the starter motor and battery.

New rider just got a 2009 vulcan 900 custom started up 5 to 6 times, the next morning not even a sound. recharged battery nothing, had battery ck-out Auto disc its good all light gose on except headlight....

Sounds like the Negative ground has been lost. Verify by jumper-cable between battery negative (-) and any bare metal on the engine. Does turn-signals and horn work ? (Like the starter motor, they both require good grounding)

Is there a manual choke in in new bajaj discover 125 st ..if its where is it nt able to find it and it is very hard to start this bike in cold mornings..plz help

It does not have a manual choke, they have come up with a new technology called "Auto Choke." If you are having trouble starting in the cold mornings, please tune your bike accordingly to get it fixed.

Wont start in the morning when i go to work but starts right up when i get home

change your oil. if you have the wrong oil for your environment the cold will make the oil too thick to circulate and the engine wont start.

Struggling to start on cold mornings, It takes

Try replacing your plugs. For the cold.
85358 May be your oil filter # from Carquest. If you get the old # off your filter they will cross it.So will NAPA
Valvoline Motorcycle look for wet clutch on the front.
Oil Lighter oil is for cold.
And the heavy oil is for warmer.

Starting The Bike On A Cold Morning

The heater will not work.Do you pull the choke cable?Is your carb assemblies cleaned and adjusted properly?I assume that your fuel pump works fine.

Starting problems

Auto or manual choke? Could be out of adjustment. Cold engine idle speed may be too low. Fouled sparkplugs may be producing a weak spark (always buy high quality plugs). Maybe a weak coil. Make sure it's covered at night. Do they sell electric dipsticks for MC's? Hope you find the problem. Good Luck.
