Check the front wheel. The speedo drive normally resides on the front wheel hub. Take a look at that and see if it looks normal, I'm thinking your cable broke inside the speedo drive which made the "pop" sound. There is a possibility the drive could also have cratered but this will have to be determined when the speedo drive is removed from the front axle and inspected for damage and function.

Check your spark plugs, they are quite fragile & yoy may have a crack in the ceramics. Replacement is recommended.

If you have power going to the coil but no spark, you've got something wrong with the "triggering" circuit of you ignition system.

One other thing, if your engine is the TC88 engine, (first year of production for some models) it probably has a "compression sensor" on it. If you have no compression, you will not have any spark. If you have your plugs out of the engine, you have no compression. So, screw a set of plugs into the engine, leave another set in the wires and grounded against the engine to test the spark.

The "triggering system" uses the signal from the ignition timing sensor that is located in the "nose cone" of the engine. Check this wiring from the ignition unit's "Black box" to the sensor. I seem to remember a plug that plugs in for this unit.

I'm afraid that this is about the only help I can give you with a stock ignition unit as I usually work with either earlier igniton systems or aftermarket units. I have very little experience with "stock" Harley units.

Check your pick-up sensor located inside the timing cover, behind the adjustor plate. If the filament is not intact you will have no spark.
A defective coil, cam position sensor, or stator will also cause a no spark condition.

Good luck, i hope this will FixYa and get your bike back on the road.

What's the best diagnostic machine to check faults

A professional scan tool, you can not afford or
or professional software,for a computer

You will only be able to afford a code reader & they
only read generic codes, not ALL info, as you suggested.

If you have no factory service manuals, you won't know
how your vehicles systems work

Then without the powertrain/emissions diagnostic manuals,
and possibly wiring diagrams, you won't have the reference
material necessary, to learn where to start any testing, once
you get codes

2009 zuma won't start and the check engine light stay flashing ?

Hi, Sadiesalcedo it should be noted that the reasons your check engine light constant or flashing, will or will not start, turns over or not conditions varies from the year, make, and model and you should always refer to your owners/service manual for proper diagnostic procedures. It should also be noted that any type of prior work or event IE: adding accessories, electrical curiosity/adventures, laying bike down/crashes, rainstorms/bike washings just before EFI light issues started can be significant hints/aids into tracking down the gremlin, also carry the appropriate jumper wire to access fault codes to reduce the risk of being stranded or towed, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty Fuel Pump, fuse or system relay switch.
2. Battery starting to fail due to old age/damage, perform a load test.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Faulty switches/sensors: run/off, ignition, clutch lever, neutral, side stand, tip over, fuel, and or their connections.
5. Broken wire or worn insulation exposing wire to a ground situation especially inside wire harness at tight bends around fairing brackets, under dash panels, under fuel tanks over cylinder heads etc. Many harnesses are open on the ends that will allow water to enter and accumulate at v-bends.
6. Check for generated fault codes.
Dielectric grease and contact cleaner are your best friends for wire/cable/harness connectors, look for corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets.

Error code 40, found problem, still wont start

you can disconnect the battery to clear the codes. If I remember correctly the code 40 is indicating an open injector circuit. You might want to check that area as well as the service manual for more detail

Car cuts off and won't start for hours what could cause this. Also idles is slow and low and shakes alot and engine light stays on.What might the problem be?

It sounds like an engine misfire, the first thing to do would be to visit an Autoparts store like Autozone, Kragen, O'Reilly etc they usually help you get the diagnostic trouble codes out of the computer at no charge, once you have the code numbers you can reply back and let me know what they are and I can assist in diagnosing the problem.
